A friend of mine in Australia just purchased a D200 and after having seen some Legacy glass shots from my 4/3 camera is keen to try out some lenses himself. I know nothing of the Nikon system except that he won't be able to use Konica and other short register lenses. So, what are some nice recommended primes, Nikon or otherwise and what adapters work the best?

Practically any nikkor prime will be more than acceptable. For value the 125/2.5 is hard to beat. The 100/2.8E series is another bargain. The 50/1.8 is one of the sharpest around for a mere $100 or less. Nikkors tend to be expensive because they are in high demand and are usually good quality.
Discussion abounds over the adapters to use, but really the P6/645 medium format lenses are the only ones that will work properly

Nice Nikon primes:

Nikon 50mm 1.8
Nikon 28 2.8
Nikon 85 2
Nikon 105 2.5
Nikon 200 4
Nikon 300 4.5

I use a pentacon six adapter with my nikon and some very very nice Carl Zeiss Jena glass! Very nice combo and good prices!

The Tamron Adaptall system is a choice as well!

But there are so many nice nikon, tokina, tamron, soligor and vivitar lenses on the used market for the nikon system, that your friend wont run short on nice supplies!

Don´t forget those Russian lenses in Nikon mount (for Kiev 17,-18, -19 and -20 cameras)

At least

Zenitar-N 2.8/16 fisheye
Mir-20N 3.5/20
Mir-47N 2.5/20
Mir-73N/Arsat N 2.8/20
Mir-24N 2/35
Helios-81N / Arsat N 2/50 (also 2/53)
Volna-4 / Arsat N 1.4/50
Kaleinar-5 2.8/100
Telear N 3.5/200
Granit-11N 4,5/80-200 zoom

Other Russian lenses can also be found with Nikon mount/adapter.

Russians are usually quite cheap, but quality can vary from copy to copy.

I´ve got the Mir-24N and Zenitar fisheye, both are very nice lenses.
