I have recently acquired vision following cataract surgery and feel like a new person. Today I took the opportunity to walk through our local park with my recent bargain - a Steinheil Culminar 4,5/10.5cm on a Novoflex bellows with special mount by Novoflex for which I paid $20 including postage. I mounted it on my Nikon D70 using a nikon made nikon/exakta adapter. So an unusual combo.
First using the Canon 40D + Tak 50/1.4 as a reference - a pieris flower head at f1.4:

Then using the Steinheil on increasing bellows extension:

Ribes - each flower is less than 1/4 inch

Rhododendron

Mahonia - smaller than ribes

I like this lens a lot

Firstly, congratulations on your recovery from surgery, glad that it has enabled you to see more clearly.

Secondly, lovely samples. The Steinheil looks to give very good results on those bellows, witha very smooth shading off from in focus to out of focus areas.

I'm happy to hear that the OP went well!!

Steinheils are great (mostly underrated) lenses and this is another proof of that fact.

This lens is really a smooth operator and I must say the engineering on the Novoflex bellows is superb - nary a wiggle at any extension, and no "shrinking back".
