I know Klaus is more of a UV guy, but what do you think about this IR lens? It's Buy It Now for a lowly 150,000 yen (1,500USD-ish)

Nice, if you have a thermal camera. Predictably not useful with film, given the system it was for: http://www.nikon.com/about/news/1998/lairds270_98.htm

Wouldn't it work with IR film and/or IR-modded DSLR sensors? Mind you, I haven't a clue, but I can't see why it would NOT work. I mean, it's still a lens, right? (with some kind of coating, which I'm guessing is an IR filter). _________________ Sony α7R, Pentax 67II, Kiev-60, Hasselblad 203FE, 903SWC, Graflex Norita 66, Mamiya M645 1000s, Burke & James 8x10, Graflex Pacemaker Speed Graphic (4x5 and 3x4), Century Graphic (2x3), R.B. My dear friend, thanks for thinking about me, but you will have a very hard time trying to look through a GERMANIUM lens. It is designed for 2-14microns usually.
That same lens was sold on ebay a few months ago, with hardly any watchers for some $300 or so. Nikon discontinued that camera quite a while ago, as Sevo has also pointed to in his link.
Modded for IR DSLR (be it CCD or CMOS) do max 1000-1100nm (= 1.0-1.1 microns) and even if it would work, how is focusing without seeing anything?

Nope. Even if DSLR sensors would work in that range, their own thermal emission would obliterate the image - CMOS sensors get quite hot, compared to the spectral range of thermal cameras and their lenses (the main effort inside thermal cameras is cooling).
