Tomioka? I notice most if not all tomioka lenses have gold coated optics Question

This lens is Tomioka designed and probably Cosina made.

The strangest coating of all Tomioka 55/1.4 I had tried, had this Cosina made Revuenon:

And here are 2 MC lenses (made by Cosina) and one single-cotaed "O-Revuenon" (manufacturer unknown)

You mean Cosina produced the optics, not Tomioka?

The optical design was created by Tomioka, but there are several manufacturers, which manufactured lenses based on this design:

Tomioka itself, Cosina (definately), Chinon (likely) and maybe some others...

Got it. I wonder if Cosina/Chinon made is as good as Tomioka...

In M42, The tomiokas lenses never were as good as takumar ones. The 1,4/50 takumar is, for me among much more, better than the tomiokas ones.

Cosina lenses are good for the price now, years before were so-so. Now, with voigtlander names they do a very good lenses that not in the first class (zeiss, leica M, etc)

I heard, that from the mechanical point of view, Tomiokas 55/1.4 weren't as good as Cosinas, but I can't compare.

I can only say, that the Cosinas 55/1.4 were very slightly sharper, than the Revuenons with rubber fucusing ring with O-shaped dimples (no idea, who manufactured that).

I think that Cosina had good build quality. If they used good optical design, it resulted in very good lenses. But their own early optical designs were bad. I had 35/2.8 and it was horrible crap.

So which class are the ZF lenses in ? I thought they were made by Cosina.

I refer to voigtlander cosina lenses.

The ZF are voightlander ones?

If they aren't you have the answer by yourself.

I read many positive reviews about Tak 50/1.4 but most of them are yellowed and they'll need few days if not weeks under the sun to get rid of it. I live in the north and it might take months. Laughing

Fwiw, I've had most of the Voigtlander SL lenses, two of the Zeiss ZKs and a few older Cosina manuals (Cosina and Porst variants of 55/1.2). I skipped out on Cosinas plastic period lenses.

Their older designs were alright, but their modern work is of a high standard indeed. The biggest thing I noticed between the older and new primes was the overall finish quality. On the older ones, there were visible a number of grub screw points and often things were fastened with just one. The modern lenses hide all this well and are more robust with better metals and tighter tolerances. The Voigtlander SLs and Zeiss ZKs seemed equal in quality both optically and physically, though I liked the consistancy through the Z line of the integral metal ribbing on the focus rings, as a personal preference.

I haven't compared these to a modern Leica for instance, but I can't think of anything to be improved with the modern Cosina work.

I can´t think that all the leica M buyers like to squander its money, buying LEICA M while they can make it more cheap with the lenses voigtlander of cosina.

I believe that the logic and the common sense guarantee my position.

I... don't know about Leica or where this is going. I just wanted to say that in my experience, that modern Cosina productions seem to be 'first class' (and that the older primes were decent too).

Regards,

Kelly.

Hi Kelly.

If for you voigtlander lenses are first class, well it's OK for you, I never want to say that I have the reason in my hands, only my personal view.

And then, enjoy voigtlander!!

Just received Porst 1.4/55 this morning and it rocks! At f1.4, it's usable unlike Canon EF 1.4/50 I had before.
