I just bought it because I remember reading it's a very good lens...
It says it is Olympic version.
I've paid $150...
Is it a good lens?

Unless I am mistaken (and I might be) it is more or less the same as the Pentacon Six medium format 180 Sonnar, with all that the word "Pentacon Six" implies for weight, regardless of whether it has an M42 mount or a Pentacon/exacta one.

After I sold my 1st copy of this lens to a good friend of mine, I bought a 2nd copy in better condition as it has so much history that goes with this lens. I call the lens my Zebra Football lens. I don't think mine is the Olympia version.

Carl Zeiss Jena Sonnar 180mm f/2.8 (m42)

Czj Sonnar 180mm f/2.8 (m42) Test Shots

I find this link from cameraquest informative on the lens
http://www.cameraquest.com/oly180.htm

Thanks,
Hin

Oh, my god!!!

What a lens!!!

Now, three lenses to buy: biotar 1,5/75, 2,8/135 orestor and 2,8/180 CZJ Olympic Sonnar.

My wife will insist, and I will have to buy any for her too. Wink

Rino.

Buy Pentacon 135mm f2.8 zebra instead of Orestegor if you can , even if they are same looking I think Pentacon pre-set even better.

I have 5 copies from Olympic Sonnar 180mm f2.8 one is reserved for you Rino if we can solve shipping/payment issue.

Then, Pentacon will be.

Shipping seems to be impossible (not fot you, but for the people that work at the import office here - they lost, broke, and want to receive impossible taxes by the weight of the thing and not by its value except that for the price they could receive higher taxes) .

About the payment, sure no problems. You informed to me alternatives to pay pal and it's OK.

I hope that with a new administration, the things change and we pruned to be to the height of the rest of the world.

Thanks for all. Rino.

Simple Q: why?

PostPosted: Sun Mar 15, 2009 12:48 am    Post subject: Reply with quote

I have several copies from both lenses and I found Pentacon zebra is sharper, better bokeh and better color rendering. Difference is not much but visible.

Attila! Is the Pentacon 2.8/100 also better than the orestor 2.8/100? Did you make a comparsion?

PostPosted: Sat Mar 21, 2009 3:12 pm    Post subject: Reply with quote

I just took a few test shots, and the bokeh of this lens is incredible.

Damn it, I didn't thought shipping is this hard... sorry Rino!

I made test shoots with both of them I don't know there is any difference. You can compare by your self based on mflenses.com/gallery pictures.

I found Pentacon 100 crapiest built lens ever, hard to find immaculate copy. I have three of them all have some trouble.
