I have this lens in m42 mount and whilst I cannot see any ill effects I notice If I hold the lens by the focus ring I can wiggle the lens mount up and down and in and out slightly. I don't see any screws on the mounting flange at all.

Firstly is this normal (anyone own this lens?) and if not normal how to tighten things up a bit?

Photos below are not my lens, but are the same except non VMC..

It's normal for aperture ring to wiggle a bit, but the mount should be firm. So, I suspect it's maybe missing a couple of screws?
You can verify this by unscrewing fixed metal ring between focusing and aperture rings: it has 3 tiny black headless screws, so you'll need an extremely thin flat head screwdriver to do this (you can see the screw hole on the first picture, just right to the "meters / feet" mark). When it's free, turn it to the left or to the right; in the aperture window (long hole below the red dot which normally shows the aperture number) you should encounter round holes. Stop there, now hold the metal ring and turn aperture control until you can see bright metal screws - or, if they are missing - tiny screw holes where the screws should be.

There are 4 screws total if I remember exactly (could be 3), check them all by turning the metal ring around. They could be a little loose, but don't overtighten them because you won't be able to turn the aperture ring if you do so. They are the only connection of the rear lens element to the barrel, so the problem is probably there.

Thanks for the clear instructions. I shall investigate further.
