I read on the Adaptall-2 site that this is the best zoom lens ever.

Does anyone have this and how does it stand against top quality zooms of today or quality prime lenses?

I know it's a fair chunk of metal, but I don't mind that.

The better is 2.8/80-200 SP LD Tamron, faster and heavier, and more expensive. I think that is still one the best lens in this range.

Is that an Adaptall lens? 2.8 sounds very tempting.

What sort of prices do they go for?

19AH can be good as most primes.

Yeah, from seeing those Attila's photo I tend to agree Atiila.
The lens seems very good and F3.5! How heavy is it?

860g

Not too bad, one-two hrs walking should ok with that.

Looking at the stats on the Adaptall site, the 80-200 beats it in just about everyway....ibncluding weight.

1.3kg may be a factor if lugging heavy bits of metal around is not your thing. Oddly, this is my other hobby. Very Happy

Is there anywhere that sells generic tripod collars as I've spotted an 80-200 but it has the collar missing.

Hi Martin,

I recently got one of these on ebay for € 176 (with caps and tripod mount).

Thanks Paolo

I may wait for one with a tripod mount as I think that one may be difficult to handhold.

I've got the 3.5/70-210 19AH.
It's a fantastic lens, but its not really compact and thus I do not use it too often.
My copy has at one point a rather stiff focus ring. It works but it doesn't run as smoothly as it should do.
This does not have any influence on performance, though.

Actually, I think about selling it, because it is a little too large for my taste and it should not rest in my cabinet all the time.

Interested?

These are some shots I have taken with the 19AH:

I have all the 70-210/80-200 Tammies and for all round use I refer the 19AH. The f/2.8 is certainly better optically but is a lot heavier and has a 77mm filter size (if that's an issue). The ones I've seen have had a lot of use not so with the 19AH generally speaking.
It's your choice but yes, I think the 19AH is a worthy lens.
