Konica AR mount on 4/3

As many of you perhaps know, the Konica AR mount lenses will fit on Olympus and Panasonic 4/3 DSLRs with only minor work. The most difficult bit is making the brass spacer. So I had a shop whip up 100 for me. I will post a few more photos once a micro drill and tap arrive next week. Here are a few just showing a slip fit on a Tokina 500mm mirror.

Here is the 500mm Tokina mounted on my L1 (the brass ring whilst visible here, is not visible with Konica lenses)

Here is a quick example hand held, no IS of 1000mm equivalent. In the full size version you can read the writing on the coax cable.

Here's a couple of Konica 50mm/1.7 shots.

And finally a 40mm/1.8 pancake.

They are almost sold out. I may order another batch if there is enough interest.

Here is the page to order from. http://www.belerionbooks.com/konica.htm

By the way, why am I not seeing the images in my original post, even though I checked them with the preview and they were showing fine?

Jim

I love to get at least 20 rings or more. From now no problem anymore with your post.

I love hexanons.
It may be reason enough to buy a 4/3 body as B/U

There are some nice deals on Lumix L1 bodies on eBay right now. Many Olympus users bought the camera to obtain the kit lens and are selling off new bodies. As long as you keep the ISO low it is a lovely camera, and the built in bounce flash is fantastic. The build on it is excellent too, nice magnesium casting and it just looks wonderful with a small prime lens mounted. I use either the 25mm Olympus pancake or the 40mm Hexanon mostly.

I knew there would be a use for my old Konica lenses one day...I only have the 50 1.7, 40 1.8 & 28 3.5 Hexanons although I do have several other 3rd party in Konica mount.
cledry,
Is that your self portrait?...I have the identical silver ring like the one on your finger...BTW, I'd likely be interested in one of the brass rings...

Scott, that is me. I look best behind a camera. My ring is gold, I purchased it to replace my wedding band when on holiday in Cornwall.

I am going to alter the web page to allow ordering single rings. Check back in a while. The postage though is the same if you order 1 or 5.

Thanks. You might want to track down some m1.7X10 screws. This is a 1.7mm thread 10mm long. The 1.7mm is the thread for the Konica flange to lens. You only need one of these longer screws per lens, to keep the spacer from rotating. Just make a hole in the spacer to line up with one of the existing flange screws, countersink so the head is just below the surface of the brass and us a longer screw. The 10mm might have to be shortened, but not much.

I have 100 screws on the way, but they are coming from England.

I should have the screws in about 7 days. I will let you know. It might be easier just to buy them in Europe though, any hobby shop should carry them as they are a common size.

HA! Now I am going to have to buy a camera to use them on. Shocked
It's OK, I'm in the market for a new camera and have been eying the 4/3 boxes but I didn't want to highly modify the Konica lenses because I still shoot film with Konica bodies.

Thanks again

You can reverse the process if you make a new rear baffle. That can be made from a bit of plastic or stiff paper. Removing the aperture arm is reversible, the spacer can be unscrewed and the lens used on a Konica SLR. I grind one of the lugs so my lens will sit in the proper orientation on my L1, but you do not need to do that.

7 days is not long and more convince to buy together than separately I'd like to wait.

Here's a quick shot of the lens on the camera, taken sitting on top of the stove so excuse the blown highlights. I think they look pretty nice together. Notice the lens orientation is correct. The simple way to do this is to grind the largest lug (the one with the notch in it) down to match the others. When you orient the lock pin hole in the spacer ring, line it up with the notch in this lug. When you install the completed lens on the camera, this lug will slot into the opening at about 2 o'clock and a slight clockwise twist will lock it into place. Note of caution, if you reuse the existing aluminium baffle, it can short out the contacts, so I recommend a replacement baffle from plastic.

Sorry guys, the first batch of rings are gone. However if there is enough interest to warrant another order I shall place one. I must order roughly 100 pieces, I think 110 is what they get from one sheet of brass. So if still interested go to this page, look at the prices and E-mail me from the page telling me how many you are seriously interested in when I reorder.

I notice that on the 50mm/1.7 if you use the stock baffle with the protrusion filed off, the bare metal left can short the lens contacts. Has anyone else noticed this? I plan to just make another baffle with a smaller hole. I tried black plastic from a food container lid but it is a bit too flexible. Any thoughts? I thought about putting a piece of flocking paper on top of the existing baffle with a smaller hole but I think it would make the baffle too thick.
