I have no propper macro prime lens, but enjoy shooting the very small subjects that are mostly overlooked

I swopped an old electric drill that was barely working for a Zuiko 50mm/1.8 and a oly 2 x teleconverter

the lens was fine (had both caps on) but the converter was so full of arcwelding splatter on the glass , i removed it and made a 25mm ext tube
He kept the camera and lens in his metalwork workshop on a shelf Shocked

I now had a macro 50mm to go and try out
My macro standards are probably not very high and i have no propper makro lens (exept tokina zoom) to judge against
But i was pleasantly surprised !

most of the pics are almost actual pixel crops of small insects smaller than 3mm (spider, leafhopper, wooly aphid) the cicada and other are less severe crops
If you are ever forget your real macro at home...grab that beaten up old oly !
Very Happy

Very well done ! It takes great patience (and good hands, good eye, etc.) to get this quality of macro work. No lens is going to make up for all that.

I have pretty much the same setup, Zuiko 50/1.8 or 50/1.4 with a 25mm extension tube I made by knocking the elements out of a bargain bin teleconverter. I don't recall being particularly graceful about it either, I think I just took a hammer and smashed the damn thing out.

It's also not bad with a 135/2.8 for dragonflies.

Thanks for looking Luis ,Poilu and Mike Smile
Poilu, thanks for advice the lighting looks a bit harsh...will see if i can clip something,(maybe sandblasted piece of glas or polycarbonate) in front of the pop up

Wow!!! These shots are really great - even moreso after reading about the manufacturing of the extension tube!
