Adaptall 2 -> EOS adapter

Yesterday I've bought a fine Tamron SP 70-210 lens.
Now I'm looking for an adaptall 2 -> EOS adapter.

I learned that there are two ways:
1) buy adapt2all -> M42 and then put it on a M42->EOS adapter (that I already have)
2) buy the adapt2all -> EOS adapter you can find here.

Any pro's or cons on these methods?

The M42-adapter is bit tricky, because it has pin for the aperture opening that has to be modified to stay down in order to use all of the F-stops.

So you're better of with Ada-minolta and minolta-eos adapters. Or the Ada-EOS.

Beware that there is also EF-adapter(the original adaptall-adapter), that is for Canon FD-system, not EOS...don't know about the adapter in your link, it seems to be the right one?

Thanks for your quick response soikka.

I have the adaptall-2 -> Canon FD adapter.

What you describe about the M42 adapter, is that on the adaptall->M42 or on the M42->EOS part (I have a M42->EOS with flange, so that part should be allright)?

Didn't know about Ada-EOS, will look that up.

No problem.

I mean the same adapter, you had in your link. Sorry for the mix-up.

Third way A ‘Copy’ Tamron EOS adaptall mount is made in China and available on eBay. I know a couple of people who use them and no complaints. They are a fairly simple thing so nothing much to get wrong.

I might get one of these too. I guess the lens still works only in stop-down mode on the Canon, is that right? Does the adapter have a mechanism to keep the lever on the Tammie depressed to close down the diaphragm?

I think so, but my adapter comes to me in the new year. I'll keep you updated.

Thanks. I found the answers - yes to both. I should have looked at the lens before I asked the questions Rolling Eyes Smile

Yes manual stop down aperture.
I think you will only get Nikon and Pentax to do auto aperture with any of the old no electric contact lenses.

I have the cheap Ada > EOS adapter with AF chip from the fray and it works well.

There's no auto aperture funtion though with EOS cameras.

The adapter was in the post today.

Works beautifull: just snap it on an adaptall lens and you can use it on an EOS camera (20D / 5D work equally well).

I have now two SP adaptall lenses, maybe I should collect them all!

Do EOS cameras have a mechanical linkage for auto aperture?
Or does the chip provide an electronic-mechanical conversion?

Sorry for the confusion, that was a typo & should have read `NO' and not `NOW'. Original post amended.
