wOw, excellent results all of them Smile !!

Attila has Biotar 58/2 described as a Pancolar.
Does planer 50/1.7 & biotar 58/2 have any similarities ?

Basically, bubbles has no effects on real-life photos. Nice shots Very Happy

top right corner is awful, I don't have such bad rendering on my helios 44-2
is this wide open?

yes, the top right corner is the worst part
-- the lens was almost at f2 because of bad light conditions..

i can compare the Planar 1.4/50 and Biotar 2/58 only

biotar has the longest minimum focusing distance among three lenses mentioned above--

Pancolar is the best for close-up distance...

Biotar's sharpness and colour rendition is exceptional attribute of this lens but IMO the corners are not good enough ...Despite this fact there is a high demand on Biotar 2/58...

I used a lot my 3 Biotars 58 in food shots (so pretty open) and none of them has a so bad corner rendition. I guess it could be a misaligned element in the lens. It almost looks like a shot made with a Lensbaby.

Here's my Biotar 2/58 T (17-bladed iris)

The 12-bladed newer one I sold did not fit the Bessaflex mirror, but this version allows infinity focus - the rear element clears the mirror with what must be only 0.3 millimeters Cool

Some air bubbles which I don't mind but I do mind there is plenty of dust inside, it needs cleaning but more importantly it needs new lube. In -2C lens focus got so stiff I kept removing it from mount every time I tried focus towards infinity...

No sharpening or any other post-processing - scan to TIFF > sRGB > JPEG original size. More samples later tonight

Thank you Attila!

More Biotar 2/58 T exposures from the same roll of film. Bessaflex TM meter is a little conservative I learned with this first roll of film, so I pardon you for the slightly underexposed shots.

FRAME #5

FRAME #10

FRAME #17

FRAME #2 @ f/2

FRAME #3 @ f/2.8

FRAME #4 @ f/4

FRAME #12 @ f/8

FRAME #21 @ f/4 to 5.6 I think

FRAME #20 @ f/5.6 to 8 I think

FRAME #19 @ f/5.6

I will upload these all to my Flickr photoset at some point when I have time, now is getting too late Cool

Nice ones too! Clearly shows why Biotar 58mm so popular! Great set!

Thank you!

I will like my sample even more once I have cleaned the dust and re-lubed it - this time of year is a test to photographer's fingers as well as lense focusing gear Razz
