PK->EOS adapter

Just a simple review, do not take it seriously as usual.

I also got this Pentax-K to EF mount adapter at ePay. The reason is that
one of my photo-camera friends in Tokyo gave me PK-mount PORST AUTO
REFLEX 55/1.2.

I just wanted to check it with EOS_5D, but I also had to file off aperture
linkage from the lens. The lens is no longer usable with Pentax camera
in AUTO mode, yes you still can use MF mode. My friends said to me
I can take the aperture pin, so I did. Very Happy

The adapter is well made, but there is no mount stopper pin. However
you can tighten up the lens to the adapter using a small screw in the
second photo. The lens is snugly fit to the adapter, you can eliminate
this "screw" process so that you can change the lenses without
dismantling a whole set.

with the lens (see no aperture pin!!)

The above photo sample were made with 350D (not 5D) before shaving 5D's mirror.
This PORST 55/1.2 cannot be used at infinity with unshaved 5D, not with aperture pin
since this pin prevents from mounting.

Somehow this PORST AUTO REFLEX 55/1.2 is almost identical performer optically
to Yashica ML 55/1.2, that was a big surprise. Shocked Very Happy Later I compared these
two lenses with EOS_5D, PORST is a bit weaker at wide open but almost par to me.

(now i have ten F1.2 lenses Very Happy) ----> 12 (recounted and corrected)
(i need both Noctilux 1.2s Laughing)

Useful tests and great information about using these lenses with the 5D - I've got the task of taking apart two Pentax-M lenses (SMC 1.4/50 & 1.7/50) in the near future to remove the aperture 'blade' and shave the raised protector for this so they'll work.

The adapter I use has that annoying spring-catch thing which is also not conducive to quick-changing of lenses.

I'm also very envious of your Twisted Evil10Twisted Evil f/1.2 lenses - you're a very lucky man!

Someday,,,,

There are so many more f1.2s out there. Smile

The most interesting to me is M mount Noctilux 50/1.2 (first version),
too expensive for a retired person or whoever except millionaires. Evil or Very Mad
The next is C/Y Planar 85/1.2, which is a superb lens I think. This lens is
currently 328,000 Yen in Japan.... Twisted Evil

What I have not owned yet is (not really wanting any more)>

MD Rokkor 50/1.2 (one time really wanted, but not any more)
Ai Noct Nikkor 58/1.2S (same as above, really)
Konica Hexanon 60/1.2 (same as above, really)
Ashahi Pentax A 50/1.2 (I am not sure wanting or not)

I saw Noctilux-R 52/1.2 (yes, genuine Leica, but PROTO type) at ePay.
This lens has 52mm focal length, anyway Leica camera bodies do not
have F1.2 indicator AFAIK. Confused

There are lots of Canon FD and FL normal/short tele-photo lenses with
f1.2 and red ring around their barrel. I have no interest in them now.

Perhaps you should open a thread dedicated to a certain focal length range (50 ~59) and 1.2 Smile

I would be nice to dream about these Wink
