Did some shooting to test of my Sears 50mm 1.4 (Made by Ricoh, same as Rikenone XR) against Canon EF 50, 1.4. All shot taken on a tripod and untouched upload. Canon JPG default, no smoothing or post processing. Canon 550D, 18 megpixel. All picture resized to 2000x at long edge, 85% lightroom default export.

The lenses comparison is taken by Canon EF 24-85mm. The helicopter, leaf, and flower were taken by Rikenon.

Stunning result, but I shouldn't be surprised as the Auto Sears/Rikenon 50mm f2 lens is also exceptional, and sooooooooooo cheap.

Completely agree. I got mine for $40 shipped. In comparison, Pentax-m 50 1.4 will run $100. I think it a good purchase.

What about the canon price?

Ricoh lenses are good ones. I have had a ricoh 1,7/50 and used it as a body cam protector till i tried it......

Nice lens, very sharp.

Canon was $340 from B&H. There is persistent rumors this version will be obsoleted soon. Given the progression of EF35 F2 to F2 IS. It is not a bad bet.

Interesting comparison, thanks for show it to us. I really like the results of Sears. It is also a beautiful lens.
