Just a heads up to those that own one. As you know they don't always acheive infinity focus, and have to be modified. I've had mine about a year and I noticed recently(this morning in fact) that what was once focusing to infinity is not anymore! So basically I removed the rubber hangrip and found that the 3 screws that lock the focusing ring to the lens had all loosened off, it didn't take long to fix it but its just something you might look out for. It looks to me that the screws weren't sufficiently tightened at the factory, and use had loosened them off more to the point where focusing was short. It might be worth checking your Zenitars, especially if you have not used it for a while Very Happy

well I've been warned before buying this lens that the focus ring will probably be "out of focus"... so I searched for some sites with the solution... after I saw that there is no problem fixing it... i just bought it Smile
bigger problem is not being sharp at f2.8 or even at f4... I was lucky Smile

I have read a few post claiming the Zenitar (Or their Zenitar) isn't sharp wide open or at f4 Yet I know four owners + myself who own one and we all agree it is sharp/good wide open and doesn't get any better after f4.
I think if there is a QA problem only a few lenses must suffer or just maybe the users with poor Zenitars have never checked the focus.
Mine recently suffered a detached aperture blade. I managed to take the lens apart (Pentax PK mount auto aperture) fix the aperture and put it back together with little problem. It really is a great lens and now I have had it apart I am even more impressed to see that, nothing much can ever go wrong and it would be a quick easy job to clean if ever needed.

The 16mm Zenitar works equally well on Crop DSLR or full frame. I regular use mine on my old Pentax ME super as well as the DSLRs
With FF the Zenitar is true 180 diagonal FOV with little corner cut off. I have pictures on my Blog.

Agree with you Rob when I first used the lens it was pretty sharp from f4, it appears that mine slowly 'lost' focus as the screws weren't very tight, but it is very easy to fix and since I tried it this pm before the rain, its back as good as ever. Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy
