Some shots from last weekend. Perhaps a bit more cheerful than my fog pics.
This time I had the MIR20 but no tri-pod. Plenty of other firm objects to rest the camera on though.

Stångån indeed. Not much else in terms of water around here. Coming from Gotland originally, I sometimes miss the coast.
Linköping has an illumination project going in November and December. It's a 5 km walk around the town with different illuminated objects. I have only seen a part of it so far so I will certainly bring out the camera again. _________________ DSLR: Nikon D200, Pentax *istDL, Nikon D100 IR converted

I love your third and fourth shot. For me this is what night photography is about. Plenty of good detail, colour and general interest.
I do hope you will be out shooting some Christmas light photos to show us what can be done.
As I have praised two of your shots I must mention I think the second one doesn’t work and the first also lacks interest _________________ Pentax K10D & K100D. Thanks Rob, and no excuses needed for the less positive remarks either. To me thats whats photo criticism is all about.
With some hindsight I agree that #2 came out rather plain. I still like #1 though. Must have some hidden preference for the slightly simplified shots that doesn't fill the whole frame with details.
I have a combination of #1 and #2 as well, but I'm not sure if it really works.
I will certainly go the "town lights" walk more thoroughly. There is plenty of darkness around, so no lack of opportunity.

I like your combination of #1 and #2 very much, I do think it works but there is always room for improvement.
How would it look with the tree and lights blurred?
I agree simple can often be best but I never even noticed in your first version that it was a street/underpass. The exposure or PP is different and I think the man on the bike adds something to the image, even better if he would have been a few yards further on.
Nice ones a cut above the average _________________ Pentax K10D & K100D. Many Tamron Adaptall SP lenses, Fujinon f4.5 400mm. A loved Lens Baby 2, Lubitel triplet +++ and many film cameras. Mainly a Digital user inc G5, GR2

Rob,
You pointed out an interesting difference between looking at a picture with or without actual knowledge of the place.
I always saw the underpass in the 1st exposure because I knew it was there.
It's always good to be reminded of how peoples perception of an image can differ.
I don't think I quite nailed it with the light blurring, although I think I get the drift. This attempt is a bit lame, but more blur made the shot a bit unreal. My skills in PS are limited. I'll probably just re-visit the scene instead and try again.
