FD-Olympus Adapters?

I have an FD lens that I'd like to adapt to an Olympus body (I have both OM and 4/3) for macro use. Does anyone know where I can get one at a reasonable price, or is there a way to cobble one together? Thanks!

There are a couple of adapters available on eBay, but they don't allow infinity focus.

The FD register distance was fairly short (42mm) so there's only about 3.5mm to work with on a 4/3 body. The FD mount is larger than the 4/3 mount, so we don't get to play the games we do with EF mounts, tucking the adapter inside the bayonet.

Micro4/3 is no problem, and the adapters have been announced. (though I think they were expensive, there's another thread on that here somewhere).

That said, there's lots of prior art converting FD and FL lenses to all sorts of mounts, including VGR's 4/3 kits for nFD here: http://oly43club.ru/forum/index.php?showtopic=690

Our member VGR make a reversible conversion with replaceable lens back. This is the perfect solution it support infinity.

The problem with FL/FD Canon mount is not just the flange distance. Because it has the overlaping breech locking, that part adds another 2-3mm to the overall size at the back of the mount. So in other words, although it SEEMS that you have 3.5mm to work with between the FL/FD(42mm) and the 4/3 mount (38.67mm), in actual fact, you only have about 0.5-1.5mm to work with. This is the reason why you see so few FD - 4/3 adapters.

In order to get infinity focus, you must remove the breech lock, and then somehow attach the 4/3 mount. This most often involves a permanent conversion. The older FL lenses are easier to convert, because while the FD lenses have the aperture dial near the lens mount, the FL lenses have it near the front of the lens, so any mount conversion will not interfer with the aperture mechanism.

Because you want it use the lenses for macro, any good adapter without an infinity correcting lens will be fine.

I've converted a Canon FL 58mm F1.2 to use with an Olympus E-510.

Heh. I already checked ebay. Unfortunately, methinks the adapter's worth more than the lens. What I'd probably do better with is an FD male coupling (camera side) and 4/3 male (lens side). But if I really wanted that, I'd need to align them and I don't have the equipment for that.

Anyway, just to clarify, I'm not trying to find an infinity converter. Just any good way to securely fit the lens to the body will suffice.

If it's macro, what about a second hand (cheap) FD teleconverter, and an M42 - 4/3 adaptor. Remove the base(camera end mount) on the teleconverter along with the glass element, and glue the 4/3 mount onto it!!!

Now we're gettin somewhere! I didn't think of that, honestly. But how would I attach the two mounts properly without having alignment problems? 'coz in macro, alignment problems can be bigtime ouch.

Ah. Insight. I realize that it's possible to strip down extension tubes instead, and they're pretty cheap...hmm yes...
