Really nice masterpiece by Dr. Glatzel -- I think the price is not fair...

I don't think this has a different optical formula than the Contax G version.
Koji gave us samples.

Yep! we do!
There are many G lenses about that have been converted to Leica M mount.
The Hologon is the only G-series lens that is not AF so it is easy to change the mount.
The G register is longer than M mount.
So the best news is the price the G version is 1/10 of this price when converted and even less when in Native G mount!
I Know it is a better performer than a Heliar 15 but it is hard to say how much better without a side by side comparison.
Even the new ZM 2.8/16 is less than 1/4 the price of this hologon.
It is mostly an item for a collector.
Looks new but it is from the West German Era. _________________ Moderator |

That was (is) a one piece experimental Lens (Hologon) produced in Prof. Glatzels lab.
It was meant to cover some 13x18cm on a Linhof rail camera from what I know. _________________ Klaus - Admin

I have the both CV SWH 15mm and G-Hologon 16mm, the difference is
very small. With careful examination, G-Hologon has less distortion
(actually almost nil) and slight advantage in darker area (ie. dynamic
range is slightly bigger). Considering the price difference SV SWH is
better overall, since CV is faster (f4.5, Holgon is f8 fixed) and ergonomically
easier to use.
Of course you love Zeiss, get a G-Hologon and then convert to M-mount.
This way is cheaper than to get $19,000 Hologon 15mm. Yes this original one
has no cemented glass elements like G-Hologon, so if you are a purist
get a Hologon 15mm.
And you can buy CZ ultra wide 15mm ZM with a couple of grands today,
so there are many choices.
By the way the conversion is normally US$350~500 range in US and Japan. _________________ Our Home Page has 18,200 photos in 575 directories today.
