This is another easy fix to solve the batt problem on the tl electro (the one that uses two 1.28v mercury oxide cells
The cells are not made anymore and the only replacement available is zinc/air cells at 1.28v or normal alkaline
or silver oxide which has a higher volage (1.5v) and may lead to damage of the metering circuit or incorrect metering
In my battery mod i use a normal diode to drop the voltage down close to the level of the original mercury oxide cells
Turn down a stock piece of pastic to a diam of 16mm
Drill a 4mm hole straight through the centre
then drill a 12mm hole 12mm deep and square of the dril taper on the inside
then part the piece to a lenght of 24 mm
fit a diode through the 4mm hole as indicated in diagram
fit normal 1.5v cells as indicated in diagram
close up and shoot!

Thanks for that nice idea, and thanks for sharing it!
But I'm not sure if this diode will be adequate. It's a standard 1 ampere silicon power diode, and the characteristics sheets only show the behaviour at high currents. They state the voltage drop at a current of 1A will be of 1Volt. But nothing about the low currents used in the cameras.
Have you got the opportunity of measuring the voltage across the battery+diode when the camera is measuring?.
If not it would be interesting to do so, to assure the voltage is right...

Hi Jesito have not tested while measuring but have tested with just the Fluke tester as load at 10megaohm with only a few micro amps flowing, the votage is 2.6v
Testing with a 100k ohm load the voltage drops to 2.5v
The current drain of the metering circuit should be well below the 100k mark (otherwise batt will only last a few rolls)
I have only limited knowledge of electronic stuff but think the voltage drop across the diode junction should stay the same at all loads, providing the diode is forward biased (more than 1.5v across)
see this link http://www.kpsec.freeuk.com/components/diode.htm
Maybe some one in the electronics field can comment and help out?
The camera seems fine but i have not checked the metering against my digital yet

You're rigth. I was thinking on the 1,35V batteries on the Spotmatics...
