We have a 90/2.5 sample in Izmir.
SP 70-210 3.5-4 also gives 1:2 macro btw but of course not sharp as the 90/2.5 prime. _________________ My name is "Yalcin", and exactly "Yalçın" and here you can find my MF samples:

I have the 60-300 and love it but for your type of shots the Tamron 90mm Macro is a must have.
I can't see that f32 would be of any use as you would be getting serious loss of quality with any 35mm lens at that aperture.
The SP 60-300 is very sharp, my copy seems as good as the Tamron SP f5.6 300mm prime (A great lens) but you have to pay for that great zoom range with the size and weight.
If you are limiting your lenses numbers the Tamron SP f5.6 300mm would be a better latter buy or if you have no need for 300mm the fantastic SP f3.5(Constant) 70-210 model 19Ah.

dear Rob Leslie
first i bought tamron 90mm 2.5 with 2x tc tamron for 1:1 macro
than i saw that the aperture does not start from 2.5 and after 11 it closes to 32.
i went to the man that i bought the lens and told the problem of aperture
he said it is difficult to repair and than i gave him an advice to use 60-300 for testing and love it..it seems sharper than most lens..
but i have many lenses all of them prime 135 pentacon,200mm 4 pentax
180 mm 2.8 sonnar,200 3.5 mamiya,150 mm 2.8 kaleinar,300 mm 5.5 soligor,500mm 8 beroflex..550 8.5 M39 ..
i dont have any macro lens until 90 2.5 but it has some small faults.
60-300 or
smaalll pentax 50 4 macro
now i have a question how can iuse the macro mode of 60-300
it seems does not work |

Re 60-300mm Macro
The Macro only works at 60mm ( A slight drawback)
Push the zoom down to 60mm, turn focus to 1.9 meters.
Push barrel of lens inwards and turn to match Macro lines.
You now use the zoom action to adjust focus.
As you know this is a big lens but using the push pull zoom action for macro focus makes it very usable.
You will also see that the lens goes to 1:1.55 and you should be delighted with the results as long as you lens is OK
Release Macro mode by pushing zoom in and repeating the push turn action.
Re the problem with the 90mm. The problem of the aperture not starting at f2.5 sounds as if 'The man' has had the lens apart and has not reassembled it correctly. I did the same myself with a f2.5 28mm lens. It isn't difficult to repair the only problem is the number of very small ball bearing under the aperture ring, they fall out and get lost and are also difficult to get back into position. The wrong possition results in the aperture ring not reading right. It is a job I would not like to try again. _________________ Pentax K10D & K100D. I'd love to have the 90mm Marco Tamron,
but really don't have any need because I like my Macro Tak 50mm f4 a lot.
A very sharp and small lens, a few samples:

@ 90 macro
For about 70,- (Euro ?) you should get a lens that is in good condition. On ...ebay they are going for about 90-120,- without any flaws.
The new 2.8/90 is a little bit better/sharpness) but much more expensive.
(I have both versions)
@60-300
Having this lens myself - I tested it aganinst the Sigma 70-300 APO as well as the Tamron 70-300 Di (at both end of the zoom range).
The 60-300 was the sharpest of these lenses. You have to stop the Tamon Di at least 0.5-1 and tzhe Sigma APO 1 - 2 f-stops down to get the same sharpness as the 60-300.
Oh yes, the Tamron SP-lenses have quite good macro-quality! Reallz! _________________ Paul
