I've ordered a 67mm reverse macro adapter from ebay and will use it with my Prakticar Carl Zeiss Jena 2.8/20 which will give 2.5:1 macro just as this and putting it on macro belows it will give a lot of macro power hard to control* Very Happy

I'll produce a base giving adjustable light from upper sides and below that will be attachable to belows+5D combo.

* 14cm fully extended belows = 17:1 macro Exclamation Question I'm not sure Rolling Eyes

As a "macro guy" I can not recommend to go beyond, say, 5x as vibration etc. gets the dominant problem there aside from teh extremely shallow DOF which cannot be increased much due to diffraction iussues. A massive stand and very fine focusing device is essential to reach that.

I would recommend to use specially designed macro lenses such as the Zeiss Luminars, Nikon Macro Nikkors, Leitz Photars (in that sequence).

Have a look at what my friend Ted Clarke had done some time ago. It shows the optimum aperture depending on magnification used (and the final mag. when viewed after printing an image):

far beyond my perception Razz
Even using a 28mm+55m extension tube produces some center located flare issues so I'm not hoping to see that 17:1 Razz
But reverse mounted lenses give good DOF so 2.5:1 is my max for now, beyond that is just pushing the limits Smile
