Barrel distortion from my 400D's 18-55mm kit lens is very noticeable at widest, which is one reason I found this forum to be so useful.

Not yet, but I may get into the old Fischer Body plant soon, as long as it doesn't meet with a wrecking ball.
We also have an abandoned NIKE missile base nearby, a set of abandoned cottages at a mental health facility, as well as an abandoned women's correctional facility which is almost directly across the road from a currently active one that is slated to close sometime next year. This is sort of a passion of mine since discovering the locations a while back, and I find these places fascinating. This hospital site, located on 400-plus acres of land, is the only site I've yet explored. There are 20 buildings on site, and I've only been in six of them so far. It opened in 1952, and various buildings went into disuse before the place closed for good in 2003. The first two shots are from a building that closed in the early 1980s, with the rest being from the main set of buildings which closed only 5 years ago.
We're very interested in the prison, but won't even consider it until the active site closes and we're certain that power has been cut off. We'll likely hit the NIKE base soon, and the Fischer Body plant may also be on our list of places to visit within short time.
Here's a few more shots from that day:
1. This was fresh, about four weeks ago.
2. Exceptionally cheap brick. I've never seen such poor brick before.
3. Domestic Skills.
4. Pepe LePew, basking in the sun. He's my little mascot.
5. Curtain Call.
6. Security was dispatched to catch some trespassers. They never found us. 
7. Shootin' Up.
8. RAWR!
9. Every commercial kitchen should have an Electroencephalagraph.
10. Come on up to the lab, and see what's on the slab.

The site in these pictures is not specifically identified for a number of
reasons. The primary reason is so that it does not become an easy
target for vandals and scrappers. The next reason is so that it does
not attract juvenile partiers. Nothing increases police & security
presence more that destructive punks, and I hope to make more
visits to this place.
To address an earlier post, the Fisher Body plant has apparently
been put into service as a warehouse & distribution center for a
large-scale electrical supply company.
However, we're still planning a visit soon to the local abandoned NIKE
missile defense site. We may also visit the Michigan Central Station,
which was actually featured in the Transformers motion picture, and
some others I cannot recall. It's an incredible neo-classic train station,
but it's largely gutted and trashed. Sadly, the only interest seems to
be the building's exterior anymore.
There are many abandonments around the world. They make for very
challenging photographic opportunities. It's not wise to use flash within
these places, as flash can alert others to your presence in a place you
are not supposed to be in. As a result of my interest in photographing
such places, I use only manual settings on my cameras, in nearly all
situations, and not just in abandonments.
For those of you who are interested in places like this, I encourage you
to visit Opacity. The site is maintained by a person who I feel is the
absolute premiere photographer of abandonments. I am also very
active on the site's forum, though I have only posted pictures of this
old hospital so far. I have no affiliation with the website, other than
as an admirer of the photography, and an active forum member.
I go by the same name over there, too.
I would strongly encourage anyone with similar pictures to post them
here, as I love this stuff. Or better yet, post them to the Opacity forums,
where the audience for such content is decidedly larger and extremely
accepting.
