Not having posted anything for a rather long time, I would like to show you a sample of my Nikkor 28mm F2,8 AiS (one of the few cases where the S is important!).

The picture shows an installation by Makoto Azuma, a Japanese artist who works with plants and pieces of plants. He had a very interesting and inspiring exhibition at the NRW-Forum in Düsseldorf, Germany this summer.

What do you think about this lens? I really like the combination of a classic wide angle with a close range of 0,2m (measured from the sensor level!).

Note: The slight lack of ultimate sharpness is due to the absence of a tripod.

Greetings
Benedikt

This is a classic lens. I know Attila has one, as do I. Nikon changed the lens structure and coating for this close focus version and produced the best lens they ever made in this focal length. It is always a matter of amusement for me that the two instances where a tripod seems virtually mandatory are very close in and very far out!. Interesting artwork and thanks for sharing it with us.

Bob, this is really beautiful. And it gives a hint of the 28 Ais´ superb resolution.

What aperture did you use? To me it looks like F4 or F5,6?

Greetings
Benedikt

Hmm, quite astonishing to see that DOF at that magnification and f5.6.
Excellent shot(s) - congrats Bob!

Cheers,

thank you kraus, enhanced DOF is the nature of wide angle lenses... however, the working distance for that shot was quite short.. the only wide nikkor ais lens i know of with a 0.2m mark on the focus ring. bjorn reports it has close range correction with the front rather than rear elements.
