I have never seen this small bird before.
Today, after a strong rainfall, the sun come briefly and this guy was very busy picking things from the garden grass.
I had the Sonnar 135 on the Canon 350D handy, so I went down to the basement and started shooting it.
It was looking at me suspiciously and jumping away as soon as I was too close, after a while I got too much close and it started flying.
The pictures are heavy crops to see the bird, retouched contrast only.

Probably not a Woodpecker, the bill looks to be to fragile.

Could be a type of snip or rail. I will try to see if I can find anything.

EDIT: OK, I found it.

Hoopoe
Upupa epops

Think its what we call a "Hoopoe" in English "Upupa epops" similar to a Bee Eater and close to a woodpecker

As Poolhall said - this bird it's a hoopoe (in Polish: "dudek"). Pretty popular here, in Poland. Regards!
