Hi all, I own a Pentax k100ds and am relatively new to manual lenses having bought a Pentax SMC M 50mm f2 and slowing learning to use a manual focus lens on a dSLR body.

I got this Exakta 70-210mm push-pull zoom lens off ebay from a seller in Germany for EU 6.50 but postage was EU 13.50! anyway, I could not find much information about the lens. From what I could find on the web, when Exakta closed, the brand name was sold to a Japanese co which produced this generic lens???? This came in a PK-R mount, which I removed the offending AE pin before attaching to my Pentax.

Does anyone have any other info on this lens?

As I am still new, I don't really know how to review the lens, just post some resized photos up. think the performance is okay...for the price. rather soft at f4.5? all images at f4.5 , 70mm and 210mm respectively. Photos of a rather high statue at a Thai Buddhist temple, hand held, evening sun with cloudy skies.

Comments? Thanking you guys in advance.

Welcome to our forum! Especially nice to join with us with this great introduction!

Exakta and Carl Zeiss Jena, Praktica brand name was sold by communist regime before their end to third party Japanse makers. This lenses are provide average quality generally.

Exakta produced only excellent cameras in the past , never made own lenses. Almost every factory made lenses that time with Exakta mount.

Same thing encountered with japanese "helios" , "zenitar" , "zeniton" ....
These lenses are 85% made by cosina group members. I own a japanese "pentacon" 2,8/135 which is "so-so" compared to original pentacon 135 mm . Never bad , however , but never stellar performers. Very little value , in my opinion . No more than $25/30 ....
Sorry , I forgot : welcome on board !

thanks for the warm greetings. been going tru this forum for info and going tru ebay, its kinda fun looking for old manual lens.

For me in Malaysia, its tougher to get good bargains, cost shipping to here is rather expensive. i agree that the Exakta lens is average, but i;m quite happy with my Pentax smc 50mm.

And just to add, I like the atmosphere in this forum, seems more about enjoying photography and appreciating the photos. Other 'mainstream' forums seems more intent on comparing camera bodies, latest features, AF speed, zoom, and the usual why my canon/nikon/sony/ etc is better.

Seems mainstream forums are marketing tools for manufacturers..
