Yashica FX-3 with lenses

Hi all,

I was walking yesterday and in a second hand shop they were selling this lot:

- Yashica FX-3 (the front is peeled off, so no very nice cosmetically, but working perfectly)
- Lens Soligor 75-200 4,5 macro
- Lens Yashica ML 50 2

The whole lot for 50€. Is it worth it?

Yes, take it.

The leather is easily fixable, the body is plastic-y but has 1/2000
shutter speed which is handy sometime. And ML50/2 is a sharp
lens, though I do not know about Soligor zoom 75-200/4.5 lens.

Can't you reduce the price a bit?

My advise is to offer them 20 and leave the big zoom.
These cameras work very well and use modern batteries.
The 2/50 is a pretty nice lens. The first I owned. I have thousands of frames taken with one.
The peeling body is normal for this era of Yashica.
It is best to peel the whole thing off and use it with just the soft cloth that lives under the shiny sticky material.
Second hand shops don't usually know what is up. They will think the big lens is worth the most money.
You can help them think that and get a nice camera and a good price.

You can fix the leather cover like this.



Just use the camera's bad leather as a template, you can cut any leftover leather
and glue it to the body. I recommend double-sideded sticky tape, if you
don't like it you can fix it again. I used a part of my wife's leather pant, since she is short.

Or you can buy DIY fake-leather with sticky backing, which makes a bit
nicer finish than my double-sideded sticky tape method.

Only the FX-3 called "super2000" has the 1/2000 shutter speed, the others have 1/1000 - if that matters. As suggested try to get it a bit cheaper - because of the cosmetic issues for example. Check for functionality of course.

Looks great Koji this color is refreshing also

I just leave mine without a new leather.
It is the camera I take to go in the woods or for "risky" street shoots.
Bad people don't want to steal ugly cameras. Ugly cameras still make pretty pictures

I like a beautiful camera too. Here is another one, though this was done
by someone else. I got it on mail-in auction when a torontonian camera
dealer/collector was passed away.

I like beautiful cameras also.
That is why I take the ugly ones to go on the risky adventures.
It keeps my nice ones safe.

Old agendas use to have a thin leatherette that is very adequate for covers. I use to collect them at the beginning of the year, everybody is throwing the old ones
