I just got this very interesting item - very cheaply !

Its the longer of the classic M42 Takumar macro lenses (the other is the 50/4). This one may be one of the later versions because it has a rubber grip instead of knurled metal, but I'm not sure about that. Its got the aperture indicator linkages for the later Spotmatics. In all respects its a Takumar in style and finish.

It only gets to 1:2 magnification, which may be short of strict "macro" status, and it looks like it needs a considerable addiional extension to get to 1:1.

Its in fine shape, with just a bit of separation of the rubber, but everything works nicely and the glass seems perfect.

Performance - I've only had time to run outside for a while this afternoon to bother the flowers, with the usual wind to impede outdoor macro. I'll try for some more pictures at the docks tomorrow.

I like this lens. Although it's a bit slow. With a 50mm extension to go to 1:1, the viewfinder gets really dark to focus.

Other then that I think it's a good lens. Nice flowershots Smile

Luis

You are a regular source of vital information on odd lenses. I have heard (read) that this is one of the sharpest lenses made by Pentax. I recently acquired the 150/4 and am enjoying it for its colour and sharpness.
Your pictures are always a delight and a standard.

Some more non-macro pictures - just the standard stuff.

There are no faults that I can detect in this one. Sharp beyond the limits of my sensor at all apertures for sure.

Congrats, Luis, and thanks for the nice pictures. I have the very same version and this is one of my favorite lenses. You must try it for portraits, the bokeh is soooo smoooth (it's a classic Heliar formula with 5 elements in 3 groups)!

Cheers!

Any idea if the SMC 4/100mm Bellows Takumar is the same design?
(I have the -earlier- Bellows-Takumar 4/100mm, Super-Multi-Coated Bellows Takumar 4/100mm
and the Super-Multi-Coated Macro-Takumar 4/100mm)

I'm sorry, guess I was just to lazy to go upstairs and take out the "Pentax Manual" to check.

So indeed, it is the same Heliar design, 5 lenses in 3 groups (a modified Triplett
where the front and rear group consist of two cemented lenses).

P.S.: your pics still amaze me Louis!!
