Does anybody know which one is better? I planned to buy Peleng (€300), but now I have possibility to buy Sigma for significantly lower price (€115). Is the Peleng worth for the extra €185 (or is it better at all)?

What I've seen from them on the web (I haven't got either lens), the Sigma appears to be the superior lens. 115 EUR is quite cheap if the lens is in good condition. If you don't want it, I would be interested. |

I already bought it and I'm waiting for delivery. There are three versions of 8mm Sigma:
8/3.5 DG EX - the actual one
8/4 DG EX - predecessor
8/4 EX - the one I bought
It's not a MF lens, but I'll post some sample shot - I'd like to learn, if it's better then Peleng _________________ (almost) complete list of Helios lenses |

I had a Peleng 8mm, and have a Sigima 4/8mm DG EX.
Without doubt, Sigma is better, IMHO.
Peleng's other problem for me was it is not perfectly circular,
the top and bottom is slightly cut off, which is a deal breaker.
I recently converted Sigma 4/8mm to EF-mount, was originally
SR-mount (remember Minolta's SLR mount ).
You have to close more than f8, say f11, to get a sharp picture,
but I paid only $150 as used. The original owner of this lens
did not like this and the lens could not achieve an infinity I guess.
I fixed the infinity problem, but SR-mount is inconvenient for me.

(I'm new to this forum)
I'm very happy with my Sigma 8mm/4.0 AF EX (K mount). €115 is a much better price than I paid!
I typically use mine at f/5.6-f/8. The Sigma (like most fisheyes) has a fair degree of lateral chromatic aberration that should be cleaned up in postprocessing.
Even though it's an autofocus lens, I never use the autofocus -- it's hard to find a focus target large enough. Better just to pick an aperture and focus at the hyperfocal distance.
BTW, the 8mm/3.5 AF and various 8mm/4.0 MF Sigma fisheyes differ in optical design from the 8mm/4.0 AF -- I don't know how this affects performance. _________________ Pentax ME Super | K20D | K1000 |

Welcome!
I'm quite happy with that lens. I use it as manual lens - set it between 1m and infinity a don't care. Here one todays shot (semi-corrected and cropped):

That's a nice one..
Sharp at the center but the sharpness decrease is noticeable at the corners but i guess that's a stardart issue for a de-fished image.. But I wouldn't know for sure as i never used one.. _________________ Omer
