The lens just arrived yesterday and i took it for a quick run. It'a a Primotar 135mm f3.5, serial 3108380. The preset apertures are working fine, focus is way too stiff, probably the lens haven't been used for a very long time. It has some scratches on outside black barrel, the glass is clean with just some specs of dust inside.

(I uploaded couple of more samples on my website.)
My conclusion is that this is the lens you either hate it or love it, there's no alternative. I love it big time.

I tested some alternatives and the best one without surgery is the KOOD M42-Nikon adaptor. It has a corrective (negative) lens which makes teh focal length a bit longer so as to achieve infinity, but the quality is astonishingly good. Not so with all others on the market. It cost about EUR40.

Or You have to perform surgery (make the lens shorter a few mm) and attach a M42-Nikon macro adaptor (w/o lens) as new mount. Works also but not reversible if you ever plan to sell that lens again.

I'm not sure that I love them - but I like them.

piticu, I don't know the Primotar, but with many lenses it's a simple (and reversible) task to release the moving inner helicoil from the focus dial by loosening three or more screws (normally covered by the engraved trim ring round the front element) and screwing the helicoil in towards the camera to focus on infinity and then tightening the screws again. It will give you the opportunity to lubricate the threads. Remember to make sure the rear element doesn't collide with the mirror.

I've done this with a 1.8/50 Pentacon lens so with any luck the older Primotar might be similar, but I'm fairly certain there are some Nikon owners here who have done this already and can help much more than me. Lovely Meyer colours by the way Smile

I thought about it but i don't think this will make the lens focus to infinity on my nikon body Neutral

Klaus, i heard all but bad stuff about m42->fmount lens adaptors, but if YOU say it's ok i will giti it a try — a little bit expensive solution.
About „surgery“: the primotar has a quite long empty barrel so it might be feasible solution. The thing is i don't have a clue about how many mm should i cut off, in other words: what is the difference between the two registering distances?

Peter, I have an old Helios with m42 mount that i might be willing to sacrifice in order to reposition the helix — I'll try that too Smile

It's the better way to me. I will do it with an hexanon lens to fit m42 with infinite.

Good luck. Rino.
