Will I do any damage mounting my growing collection of old Nikkors on my Fuji S5?

Don't know about the S5 but you definitely risk damaging the mount with some of the pre-AI's on the D200

Hallo,

This is from

http://www.nikonians.org/nikon/d200_and_non-cpu_lenses/d200_and_non-cpu_lenses_3.html

Your Fuji should have an AI lever (AI = Auto-Index) like on the older Nikon FE shown in the picture. Look at the lens mount area on your S5, and you’ll find it. My D200 has it (a black one). Since non-AI lenses do not have a notch matching this lever there is nowhere for it to go on your S5. You could snap it off if you force mount a non-AI lens.

Simply put... pre-AI lenses are not safe to mount on any dSLR's, with the exception of the D40/D40x. The aperture ring is easily converted by a pro and this should be seriously considered for use on the D200.

For ID ease of Nikon/Nikkor lenses, check this URL...

D60 is also safe. As well as the option of having them converted by trimming the aperture ring flange original conversion kits pop up reasonably regularly on ebay for some lenses.

Thanks. That was exactly the information I was looking for.
