What about the rokkor 58/1,4 ?

I look through it at the camera, and I see like do without the camera (relation 1:1).

How good is it? Anybody knows ?

Thanks.

Rino.

It is MC Rokkor-PF 58/1.4, the most of MC rokkor 50~58mm lenses are
much the same, except MC Rokkor-PG 58/1.2. They all have a nice
bokeh, generally sharp (not at wide open, of course newer MD 501/4 is
sharp at wide open). MC Rokkor-PG 50/1.4 is very nice one too. Yes there
is an exception, older Auto-Rokkors (before MC) are not too good IMO.

See my examples of PF 58/1.4 >

hanks Koji, very much.

You said that the MD 50/1,4 is sharp at 1,4. Is it sharper than the SMC tak 50/1,4, for you?

I don't have yet any of them.

I use a MC Rokkor-PF 58mm 1.4 on my Minolta x700 and it is a good lens with nice contrast. The bokeh is good and it gives a pleasant softness wide open.

Here are some of my own samples.

All examples are wide open.

I just got the Rokkor 55mm 1.7 on the bay but havent had the chance to use it yet..

Very nice pics, the softness in the n° 1 do a very good portrait. I like the n° 3 too.

Minolta X700, Which film?

It is hard to tell you, I haven't compare them directly nor easy to do so,
since I cannot mount MD 50/1.4 on EOS_5D yet. However SMC Tak 50/1.4
is pretty sharp at wide open comparable to Zeiss 50/1.4ZF and Nikkor Ai
50/1.4S for sure, but Rokkor MD 50/1.4 has the highest resolution in
centre zone at the wide open historically for japanese made lenses.
it was above 250 lpm at f1.4, almost equal to Leica Summicron-M 50
early version.

Thanks, Merelyok

Thanks for the information, Koji

I didn't think that the MD 50/1,4 were so good. Great surprise.

Similar to the summicron m early version - 7 elements?

Wow!!!. (I prefer the minolta-leitz era 6 elements Wink )

I will buy a minolta MD 50/1,4. Thanks again.

One more thing, I personally prefer MC Rokkor-PG 50/1.4 than MD 50/1.4.
Yes MC has a bit less contrast than MD, but the both lenses are very hard to
convert to EF-mount unfortunately. Here is some info:

MC ROKKOR-PF 58/1.4
A......112.......99
B.......100......119
C.......224.......134
D........112.......155

MC ROKKOR-PG 50/1.4
A.......140.......109
B........112......124
C........224......144
D........100......163

MD ROKKOR 50/1.4
A........140.......72
B........125......138
C=D....250.......186

In the above, (lpm) ... (lpm)
A) focus to attain sharpest in the centre...........................(centre)...(average entire frame) at f1.4
B) focus to attain sharpest in the entire frame average.....(centre)...(average entire frame) at f1.4
C) same as A) at f5.6
D) same as B) at f5.6

B) and D) means, you focus the lens to get the highest average lpm for the entire frame,
if A=B and C=D is a very nice lens, but I guess it is hard to achieve. MD 50/1.4 has C=D,
which is admirable though. As far as lens resolution is concerned, Rokkors are getting better
due to relentless effort of Minolta lens designers and quest to attain the best.

Koji

I'm gratefull for your information, but I must say that not understand the last post.

Excuse my ignorance, as the writer Jorge Luis Borges said, but if you can explain this, may be I can understand.

Thanks, Koji

Rino.

Hi, I am not sure which part of my last post is not understandable.
But I will try one by one.

The number table is mainly for resolution (lpm = line per mili meter)
of lenses at certain f-stops. In old days people used to use this lpm
to measure "sharpness" of the lens, normally the lens has 100 lpm
this lens is fairly sharp I would say. But today people are using line-
pair (black and white lines), so those number must be divided by 2
in the table I mentioned.

The lens resolution is normally high in the centre, and generally gets
higher when you close down f-stops as you know. But centre sharpness
is not always a good measure, that is the reason of B) and D) which
indicates average sharpness of entire frame. This means that you want
to increase maximum sharpness as much as large area in the frame,
so that the result (photo) looks generally sharp across the frame.

Those figures are obtained fro 1970 to 1980s, in the era Leica style
resolution chart/table was very popular. So the table reflects that era,
today people normally use only MTF graphs. (Don't ask me what MTF is.)

Now it's clear for me.

Again, thanks you very much, Koji

Rino.

Yes...Its no better than a Pentacon 50mm f1.8...Not worth bothering with unless you get given one for nothing.

DSG

Yes, I have a cheap and great pentacon. Very good lens.

Thanks, Rino.
