Hi all: I need a bit of advice here for a 35/f:2 SMC Takumar.

I have my eye on this lens, and can get it for about $30 in good shape.

It's a user, with rubbed out spots on the various rings, but the guy who used it is very good to his equipment, and so I know the history.

I could have looked for a 35/f:2, but frankly I don't need the speed (almost always on a tripod for 90% of my shots).

Would this be a fair price ($30) for this lens? I think that just about all of the Takumars are good to excellent lenses?

I think the price is a good bargain.

Heck, if you don't want it, get it for me. I will PP you the money Smile

I have the older Super Tak 35/2 with the bigger filter size and love it very much. I think it's used as much as my CZJ Zebra 35/2.8. I don't have the 2.4/35, unfortunately.

Go and get it, Larry! If you don't like it, you can easily sell with profit!

The price is very good. SMC 35/2 is often sold for 5-7x higher price on ebay. This lens is fast, small, excellent built. Its only weak point is visible CA.

Snatch it up! It is a great price for a popular optic.

I have one in mint condition- the later one with a 49mm filter rather than the earlier 58mm one. I do not use it as much as I should but am beginning to, now that I have a 4/3 digital which can use this with an adapter. I do not know how the two lens variants compare but someone here may be in a position to comment.

The prices go up and down with time. Yes, you can sell this lens for profit anytime... but still, its all eBay...

I had an opportunity to get lens few times around $20. Although there are lot of great reviews about this lens. But I have heard, this is very prone to flare. The reason is old design. The front element is is huge. The design has 2 distinctive group of element. The front group is huge and there is lot of open space between front group and the group at the end. This creates lot of internal reflections and so flare....

(My gues is this design is very similar to old Adapt-a-matic mount Tamron 28mm f2.8 lens.. the front element is like satellite dish).

But still.. for $30, get a piece of glass which is really sought after in current times.

Laurence you seem to be having quite a run on good value lenses.
