I believe those using Rollei lenses are buying thin adapters (but not thin enough) and then adjusting infinity focus on the lenses.

hi, I wanna thank you all for the advices you gived me some time ago!

I ended up buyng for really low prices two lenses:

olympus om zuiko 50 mm f 1,8
kiron (om fit) 28-85mm f 2,8-3,8

I am very happy with them, except for a thing: colors! maybe it's just an impression, but it seems that color are not bright as with the AF lens that I have or with my father's compact digital camera

is it possible that an old lens doesn't reproduce the colors well?

Many of low priced old lenses has lower contrast and different colors than newest AF lenses. Some of them stunning and I love them , some of them request to fix it. I use auto color and contrast improvment in this case in post processing when I convert them from RAW to jpg. In 90% auto function is produce good results in rest of cases I adjust pictures manually.

Dear friends,

let me share some recent experiences with M42-> and P6->EOS adapters. I own an EOS 20D, and have recently bought three types of adpaters.

1) M42->EOS by two different Ebay vendors (http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=390241845784, http://cgi.ebay.de/M42-to-Canon-adapter-for-20D-30D-40D-50D-450D-400D-/290446336805?pt=Filtri_e_Lenti&hash=item439ff36325)

Unfortunately, the hole for the pinlock is about 0.2 mm too big. So the lenses can be mounted but are not well-fixed.

2) M42->EOS with AF chip (http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=170518698518&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT)

Pinlock fits perfectly.

3) P6->EOS by two vendors (http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=280426826205&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT, http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220485932263&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT)

Same bad fit as with the plain M42->EOS adapters. And with a fat Sonnar, this hurts the donkey.

Is this a common problem?

Does it matter what adapter you get for Eos?
My friend has the Canon 500D and she wants to try my M42 lenses...I use Pentax and have no idea which adapter to get for her?

The M42 to EOS adapters are less problematic because the difference in register of almost 1.5 mm so ,shouldn't be problems with infinity focus. Can I just get some clarification of the situation with Rollei lenses on EOS. It seems like the 50/1.8 has problems with the 5D and - I assume - other full frame models. But is this OK on other non-FF models like 10D, 20D etc? Does it clear the mirror? If there are problems, which 50/1.8 models does it affect - all or just some?

And while I'm posting, can you point me to any ready-to-buy adapters that are shaved down to the 0.6mm needed for infinity focus?

First attempt at using this arrangement, effectively plain ground glass viewfinder, that took me back forty years straight away and the electronic sensor system is just so much clutter in this mode!! Of all my M42's this Flektogon is the easiest to get along with and much like a standard lens on this camera. I did play with the Rubinar? 5.6/500 mirror lens, but to attach it to the 10D I had to also attach the 2x Prakticar, this makes a 1000mm x1.6? outfit. Very impressive magnification, but a SOLID tripod IS mandatory and mines in the back of the cupboard, so that is for another sunny afternoon somewhen, eh? I was disappointed that my Lydith 3.5/30 wouldn't achieve infinity focus as is and I found that my Hell and Bowel 2.8/28mm seems to work but it is difficult to use with just a plain ground glass!! Come back split image, All is Forgiven, AF? geddit?

Any pointers for batteries on my 10D? these are now aging quite badly and both need replacing.

Thank you DigiChromeEd, I'm following that up, them's cheaper than Jessups (isn't every one?).

I've had another `play' this time with that Lydith, it maybe that the viewfinder's cluttered ground glass doesn't lend itself that well to manual focus, the Cannon 10D is primarily an autofocus camera, intended for lenses of that ilk, only. A little time and not so little perseverance, I've managed to get some results that actually please me.





Both of these shots were taken on the Lydith 3.5/30 and once I get better at focusing this beast, I think it makes a good `standard' lens for the 10D. Both of these shots feature the classic Roeschlein_Kreuznach_Telenar_3.8/90 from the fifties, this lens is as basic as it gets, NO preset, NO auto iris and NO click-stops. Nice optics tho', but the 10D won't use it, too much rear element camera intrusion fouls the 10D's mirror, shame that! Now if any-one has a swapsie for it...............? PM?

Hi Jason.
I used to buy Big-IS EMF AF confirm adapter Nikon Ai to EOS, but their eBay shop is now empty.

I contacted them by eBay and thay answered me they still have their adapters for sale, asking me which one I needed.
I feel strange that they don't implement their eBay shop anymore.
Anybody knows what happened and where they're gone ?

Else, does anybody knows what are the best nikon ai to eos adapters available on eBay ?

The last Nikon-EOS adapter I got from them was the best fitting adapter I've had, no play at all between lens and camera. All my lenses have their own adapters, which is lucky because I'm not sure I could get this one off. Laughing
I don't know if it makes a difference to the fit, but none of mine have chips on them (never accurate enough).

Well I'm pretty sure you can upgrade the focussing screen to help, you have live view too which allows you to zoom in to the subject for critical focussing. Also Magic Lantern is available for the 60D so you can have focus peaking as well as numerous other features, see here http://www.magiclantern.fm/

There's the Katseye split screen focussing screen for the 60D, there are other manufacturers and probably other style screens available too. I have an Eg-s type in my 5D Mkll, no split screen but it's still much easier to see a subject in focus when using fast lenses. A lot depends on the lenses you'll be using.

Have a read of the Magic Lantern website I linked to, it's firmware which runs alongside Canon's firmware on your camera. It adds dozens of features for still photography and video. I have it on both my 5D2 and 7D and I wouldn't be without it. It's free. It's worth having just for the focus peaking alone. Any features you don't want can be turned off. Did I mention that it's free? Laughing
The website also has a forum, you'll find the answers to most of your questions there, that's where I go for mine.

Is it possible that in France I can't access his shop due to some kind of limitations ? Shocked

About AF confirm chips, I'm fond of them because they help a lot to get near focus quickly, then I adjust in the big FF 5D MkII viewfinder. Wink
