***The Pentacon 1,8 is really very sharp ... I own this whole rang and this lens is a real gem***

Well the Meyer oreston zebra which is the same as the Pentacon is very good as well....one day I'll have to do a shoot out between my Meyer, Nikon, Hexanon, Canon, Olympus, Pentax screw..........standard 50mm lenses

If you have the Hexanon 1,7/50 older version, let me put a dollar for it.

Older version? I only thought there was one? Anyway also have the F1.8 and can't see the difference between the two.

......well film users are lucky as we can use any, most are cheap so why not use the best. And what is the best makes an interesting topic.

You are right , Attila ... In my Planar-Sonnar formula 50mm M42 MF lenses range , I cannot really decide which is the worst ... near 20 helios 44 (I miss the 44-7, however ) , no "dog" , German celebrities : Schneider Xenon (2 versions) , Czj Pancolar (2 versions , mc and zebra) Flexon, Biotar;Meyer Oreston and Pentacon brands, Steinheil auto-Quinon ,Smc-Takumar 2/55, 1,8/55, no more ... Yet differences exist on the contrast , color rendition, saturation , bokeh sides. That's why we discuss endless on this forum ! We couldn't do so with the universal 18-55 cosina Zoom of our respective Dslr's kits .... Very Happy

Older? Yes, see http://www.buhla.de/Foto/Konica/Objektive/e50_17.html

Differences? See http://www.buhla.de/Foto/Konica/Objektive/e50_18.html

The last information was the same that I could see in both lenses that I had for years.

I never see a bad 50 mm lens (What is a bad lens? Another question). But I remember the reporter to a Kowa 35 mm cam and the test of the lens was good only at F/5,6 to down. Before, POOR!!! Shocked

May be a bad lens? Laughing

In RF a lot of really so-so (with enthusiasm and amiability) lens i.e. Voigtar voigtlander 2,8/50 to RF.

Seems that one was pretty bad or poor. I see some garbage ,none of them was in 50-135mm range this range I think the best ones from primes.

Well I'm sure it would take quite a few shots of brick walls to tell the difference between the three versions of 50mm f1.7.
