Well the Meyer oreston zebra which is the same as the Pentacon is very good as well....one day I'll have to do a shoot out between my Meyer, Nikon, Hexanon, Canon, Olympus, Pentax screw..........standard 50mm lenses

Older version? I only thought there was one? Anyway also have the F1.8 and can't see the difference between the two.

......well film users are lucky as we can use any, most are cheap so why not use the best. And what is the best makes an interesting topic.

I never see a bad 50 mm lens (What is a bad lens? Another question). But I remember the reporter to a Kowa 35 mm cam and the test of the lens was good only at F/5,6 to down. Before, POOR!!! 
May be a bad lens?
In RF a lot of really so-so (with enthusiasm and amiability) lens i.e. Voigtar voigtlander 2,8/50 to RF.

Well I'm sure it would take quite a few shots of brick walls to tell the difference between the three versions of 50mm f1.7.
