The results of either are further processed in GIMP
Darktable has the "negadoctor" module which is incredibly useful for digitizing negatives, and while the learning curve might be steep it becomes easy and natural after a few tries.

Available for Win & Mac. (I meant I use it on Linux)
GIMP can use Darktable and/or RawTherapee for developing raw; on closing, GIMP opens developed raw. |
