Is there anybody here using Sony NEX with adapter to use MF lenses?
It seems to be a useful tool.
The price for the NEX3, body only, is below 300 €.
Any real life experiences?
Is the menu a problem?

I will be, soon. Mostly to use it with tilt adapter and 35mm lenses.

Haven't got the adapters yet.
but the camera seems OK

First you need to enable 'Release w/o Lens' in Setup.

The 'MF Assist' soft button appears when you remove the Sony lens.
If you press it, it cycles between 7x and 14x zoom of the lifeview.

Overall the menu is quite OK .. everything can be accessed in 2-3 clicks,

The settings are distributed between 3 categories 'Image size' , 'Camera settings', 'Brightness/contrast' and it is not always obvious which is where.
For example iso, exp comp, metering and white balance are under 'Brightness/Color' and Drive mode and AF/MF under 'Camera settings'.

There are shortcuts currently (with the arrows) for exposure compensation , flash, drive mode and display info.

BR,
Stefan

Thanks!
I have read that there will be a firmware update in mid October that enabels one to assign ISO etc to the soft keys.

All the lenses I use with A7r or A7r3 are adapted. I don't own any Sony lenses. Some of my images can be found in MF Lenses, the latest being the (crosseye) stereos..

Image Transfer to PC Issue A7r3

A problem I had, unknowingly, for 2 years. I have a Sony Alpha A7r3 full frame camera. I made a point of getting a camera to USB lead for it and had been using it blissfully.

I went to a Classic Car event at the pub on Sunday morning with my full frame camera and a selection of lenses. As it turned out, the lens I most wanted to try out, and which was on the camera from the outset, was the only one I used.

The first shots were of the landlady’s father on his motorbike. When I got home and downloaded the images, I was surprised that those were not present. Also, the number of images seemed very low.

To cut a long story short, according to Prof Google, the Sony camera does not always recognise its own images and doesn’t pass them to the PC along the special cable. Fortunately, they all appeared when, as recommended, a card reader was used. I cut and pasted from the folder, as displayed on my PC . I gained over 200 images, all of classic car meets in 2022 & 2023, and many of them are very good, some excellent pairs for stereos.

The images which were hidden could not be reviewed on the camera, so I thought I must have caused them to be deleted. It was only when I suspected that they were on the card, but hidden, that I searched for, and found, the answer.

I always take the SD card out of my A7S camera and pop it in a card reader to transfer the images to my computer. I also use a card reader that sees and obeys the write protection tab on the SD card. Macs have a habit of creating all sorts of hidden files and folders on any drive/card you connect to them, which the SONY camera may struggle with afterwards. Hence by using a card reader that obeys the write protection tab I avoid that problem.

Be careful with the low profile card readers where the card is only inserted a few mm; those cannot see the write protection tab and happily write over a card you set to be write protected.

Memory foggy here, I thought we discovered why those images went "missing". I can't find the thread right now...

It would be good if you could find it.

In a Sony forum elsewhere, others have reported similar experience and not just with Sony. I think Canon was mentioned.

Back on adapters:

I use many legacy lenses. I try to get them in Nikon F mount and use an adapter F-to Sony E. I do have a number of other mount adapters to E.

I have some of the Laowa manual lenses. I got them in Nikon F mount where that was available.

The main issue with adapted legacy lenses is that some vignette slightly but I can afford to crop that off. With 35mm film the mount would cover the dark corners.

My 150mm Printing-Nikkor has an image circle of only 30mm but a x1.4 TC behind the extension eliminates the dark corners.
