Browsing old photos I found a few examples from this lens, taken in the same place on the same day.
A bird in flight, a bee in flight (almost) and a portrait.
Editing: minor noise reduction and white balance adjustment.

This was the first, and only, manual focus zoom lens I've ever bought. I think I was lucky with the purchase because not only was the lens in mint condition, it also amazes me with it's performance.
A search of 'best of lenses' didn't reveal another thread, so here it is.

Great shots Gary but if I'm not mistaken the first version of this lens was manufactured by Kiron, the second Tokina and the third Komine.

You are absolutely right, I've been looking at my different lenses all day so I got mixed up. Embarassed

Thanks. I too was shocked by the quality coming from this lens, I was only expecting reasonable results so I was blown away by it.
I think it's well known that lenses can vary slightly from one example to another, it looks like I got lucky with this one. Razz

I also have the first version of this lens; it originally came along as a free extra with a film camera + several other lenses, because it had severely oily inner surfaces. However, it was quite easy to open up and clean, and I think it fares quite well for an old zoom… Some (old) photos with it:

Everyone has their opinion on which version is best, I personally think mine is Rolling Eyes but then again I've not tried the others so I'm completely bias.

A screech owl liked posing for the Vivitar 70-210/3.5...1/125 @ 5.6 iso 800 on 30D

It's a pretty good lens. I gave mine away when I got the Komine version as it's just a tad sharper.

From today's bike ride with the Vivitar 70-210...
The mid-day ride found the deer seeking shade, like me...

Gorgeous pics, all of them! I had this lens in FD mount, need to find it in Nikon. The Kiron focuses to 1:2.2, best of the 4, if not mistaken.

Yes, this lens is underestimated imo. It's my favorite manual lens.

Great photos.

Anybody who can provide her/his feedback on the close up performance? If I am not wrong it has a high reproduction mode at certain focal length or mode...
