Sun 60-135/3.5 zoom - 1970's Bling !

I don't have any Sun branded lenses, but I do have a YS mount lens. It's a Sigma 80-200 F3.5 in Konica mount & from what I know, Sigma developed the YS interchangeable mount to compete with the T mount systems. As it is, a T mount can be used on the YS mount with no problem... BTW, that Sigma lens I referenced goes to 1/2 life sized, but the quality sucks...

The 24-40 is NOT a Tokina lens
Sun lenses were manufactured by Sun (Goyo optical)

This was the first wide-angle third party lens
The second one was the Vivitar Series 1 24-48 made by Kiron (kino precision)
At that period, the widest tokina zoom was the 35-105 (sold mainly by soligor and tokina)

I enjoy this thread for the photos. It seems an amazing lens. I see positing of Sun's lens in the 28mm and test pictures are quite good for the low price. Thank you in sharing the great stuff. I especially like the focal length in 60-135mm and I think that focal length will work out great for portrait.

Any spec on the weight, I did not check in detail, it looks like a two zoom ring design instead of a push/pull zoom. I prefer the former as I easily get myself to move from one focal length to another by mistake.

I have a Kiron 70-150 f/3.8 in M42 and I bought it for $40 and I especially love its 2 touch zoom design. And I sold my K mount version cheap to get the M42 as the M42 lens can be used in Av mode in my Pentax K20D.

That focal range with a two touch zoom steer me away from MF lens with push/pull zoom. You can see my report on Kiron 70-150mm f/3.8 with K mount which is very similar to the M42 mount. And in the M42 mount, I also get a doubler from Kiron to make it 2 lens with 70-150 f/3.8 and 150-300 f/3.8 with 2 stop loss perhaps.

I wish I have a chance to play with the Sun zoom. I am trying to stay away from zoom on MF lens, but there is ALWAYS a good exception.

@luisalegria: I am a lens junkie -- meaning that I always overdo in buying lenses that repeat focal range. I live in Fremont. If you ever think about cutting back on your zoom, especially on the 60-135mm, please PM me and extend an offer to me.

I recently on a rampage in getting the best AF zoom with SDM, something similar to USM, I guess in Pentax world with weather protection. I bought it used and the used Pentax DA* 50-135mm f/2.8 costs a bundle in $670 while I sold my Kiron 70-150mm f/3.78 in K mount for $35.0 to another good Pentaxian buddy. I call all buyers my best buddy as they help me to unload old lens so that I can explore another lens, be it MF in the garage sale to the latest best and brightest. But I am the cheapo guy always have a heart for MF lens in the cheap that can rival the latest.

2. A used $670 Pentax DA* 50-135mm f/2.8 with weather seal and SDM motor, very quiet like the L lens with USM or the VR in Nikon. AF of course. I think Tokina has something similar but without the weather seal

Looks some pretty damn good quality from what even years ago were classed as "Budget" lenses
