I won a Zeiss Triotar 135 with serial number 3123058
According to Attila's information, it should have been made around year 1947. It will be one of my oldest lenses.

I paid for it 24,99 Euros:

Congrats! I have two copy of them one is MINT not focusing Sad focus rotate , but I can't get any sharp image in other distance than 1,5m.

Another one has aperture defect always set to f8. I tested this second version , nice sharp lens. I wish you luck to get a good working copy.

Is this Exakta or M42 mount?
I would very much like to see images from this one.

Orio, this is a piece of chance ! I followed this auction but I could'nt be there at the end ... hihi . However , I gave no more than 45-50€ including P&P . I'm happy this lens found an new owner like you and have not fallen in "irreligious" speculator's hands ... Mr. Green Congrats.

Orio,
What ever happened with this lens... It did not make the cut?
I was hoping you give Triotar a nice thumbs up.

Well, first I had a lot of work these days.... secondly I am a bit let down, it behaves strangely. Wide open, is OK, I mean of course not super sharp as expected, but normal, like Trioplan.
Stopped down it behaves funny, it introduces quite some flare, that I am unable to figure out.
So far, with all the lenses that I have tried, the lens flare was worse wide open, and improved stopped down.
This is the first lens that does the opposite (it is free from flare wide open, and gets worse stopped down), and I am not able to figure this out.

The glass is very clean, considering the age. So what happens can not be fault of the glass condition.

It's very strange Orio, let me do some tests with mine (it's from 55-58 S/N 4732172) stopped down and I'll post here the results.

Orion, may be a diffraction phenomenon increase by the uncoated internal surfaces of the lens. Please, tell us what happen with this.

Unfortunately I don't have much time for photography these days, last week I worked 20 hours per day to deliver the work before the deadline, and in the weekends I have to work in the restoration of my father's house.
As soon as I can put together some 30 minutes, I will post some samples from the lens.

This is expected behavior with some lenses. There is a rather theoretical paper on lens flare at http://www.opticsinfobase.org/viewmedia.cfm?id=50543&seq=0 with some measured real life examples, see figure 4 for the aperture dependence of the flare of a Heliar. The 135mm Triotar is a so-called long lens and behaves differently compared to your more modern 135mm tele lenses. It is quite possible that most if not all my very old lenses behave similarly.

It seems the short link works from our University network and accesses the document using a temporary link which works just for some limited time. Yesterday the temporary link worked from my home computer but now it doesn't work even from the University network -- the short address does and produces a new temporary link. Probably the University has paid for the access. I removed the useless temporary link from my previous posting.
