I´m thinking of buying this lens. How does it compare to the contax version? I have seen some testshots wideopen and it looks a little bit soft. Please advise. Thank you! _________________ Sony A7 + Carl Zeiss T* |

It depends on sample a little, but it isn`t razor sharp at f/1.4(contax). ZE is exactly same lens. Little comparision:

Btw it depends on light condition a lot - sometimes Planar at f/1.4 is softish, somtimes is sharp for example:
100%crop no sharpening

If you want more samples - i can send you. I will go for Contax version - it`s equal optically and cheaper twice
Another sample:

I couldn't find it... I have read reviews of this lens but I thought I would ask people that use it in real world applications. If you have time could you please include the link to your test? Thanks _________________ Sony A7 + Carl Zeiss T* |

Beautiful samples Karabud. I'm leaning towards getting the ZE version though. _________________ Sony A7 + Carl Zeiss T* |

What did you conclude from your lens test? I'm leaning towards the ZE version, I get warranty and built in AF confirm with my 7D. _________________ Sony A7 + Carl Zeiss T* |

Yes i know i got AE. I`m thinking about optical differences - i think all ae&mm&ze/zf are same(only aperture is different) - but there are better and inferior samples. _________________ http://www.flickr.com/photos/atheist_lenses/
