I´m thinking of buying this lens. How does it compare to the contax version? I have seen some testshots wideopen and it looks a little bit soft. Please advise. Thank you!

It depends on sample a little, but it isn`t razor sharp at f/1.4(contax). ZE is exactly same lens. Little comparision:

Btw it depends on light condition a lot - sometimes Planar at f/1.4 is softish, somtimes is sharp for example:

100%crop no sharpening

Thanks Karabud!

So, should I get the ZE version or the Contax version?

If you want more samples - i can send you. I will go for Contax version - it`s equal optically and cheaper twice Wink

Another sample:

I couldn't find it... Embarassed I have read reviews of this lens but I thought I would ask people that use it in real world applications. If you have time could you please include the link to your test? Thanks

Beautiful samples Karabud. I'm leaning towards getting the ZE version though.

What did you conclude from your lens test? I'm leaning towards the ZE version, I get warranty and built in AF confirm with my 7D.

Yes i know i got AE. I`m thinking about optical differences - i think all ae&mm&ze/zf are same(only aperture is different) - but there are better and inferior samples.

many f1.4 lens is sharper than this one wide open (takumar, canon ef, nikon,...), but it should be sharp enough on FF (I tested it on 5d2)
