Glass looks yellowed to me....?

PostPosted: Wed Dec 26, 2007 9:32 am    Post subject: Reply with quote

Yes Bob, it could be thoriated (hence radioactive) glass, like the old 50/1.4 Takumar or 178/2.5 Kodak Aero Ektar lenses. 2 weeks under a bright sun should remove the yellow tint. And no need to do that if you shoot mainly B&W, you'll have a free built-in yellow filter Laughing

Even with the yellowing, I think it's a bargain price for this lens. You could also buy the same lens, including the yellowing, for ten times as much (with a damaged Pentacon Super thrown in): Click here to see on Ebay

Cheers!

Thanks, I got a bid on this lens.
If everything is OK, I may choice this purchase like the best of 2007. But who know, is there a mistake with the price?

@ Abbazz:

I have a Pancolar 1.8/50 with yellowed glass but unfortunately not enough sun at the moment to do anything about it. Laughing

With yellowing BW shots are the best! Smile

@ iha: Yes, I'm tempted to leave the lens as is - mind you, at the moment, I don't have much choice. Wink

Yellow is normal on this lens, it works fine. Congrats! This was bargain of year! Seller didn't much clue about this lens value.

I have received the lens. A blande is slow, but I think it is normal, need a clean. An optics is OK. A seller is very correct! I can not wait to shot some samples at this weekend! Smile Thanks to Abbazz!
