In fact you can easily tell just by the way they write the lens data.
Zeiss would always write "2.8/28"
while this lens writes "F = 28 mm 1:2.8"
Which is totally a Japanese way of writing.
So BEWARE!!!!!
It may look like a Carl Zeiss Jena - but it's not.

It's more than that, it's made in Japan (I mean the one I have linked to), it's a japanese lens with a German name.
