Browsing the web looking for odd Soviet lenses in a Nikon mount I came across the Yashma 4N - 300m f2.8.

Has anyone tried it?

I heard an 300mm f2.8 what is not good quality at all and expensive like western sisters. I am not sure about brand.

I saw one for 620 US$ - not cheap but for a long fast lens it's a lot cheaper than Nikkors Smile

If he quality's not there though...

Guess why not find any pictures taken with this lens and why not find info. I found once somewhere, that wasn't shows more than a 50 USD lens.I remember it wasn't sharp at wide open. To pay this fast lens, pay because you would use at f2.8 not at f8 Smile

For about the same amount, you should be able to get the Tamron SP 300/2.8 Adaptall-2 (I bought mine for $450 last year from Keh but prices have gone up since), which is a good lens perfectly usable wide open. It also mounts on almost any small format SLR ever made, which is very useful for me as I have cameras with M42, Pentax K and Canon EF mounts.

Cheers!

Yes, Tamron SP a super fine lens, always good value for money.

Thanks folks - a fast 300mm isn't the top of my priorities (but could be useful), it's useful to know whether it's worth stretching budget if ever one pops up on ebay.
