Hi lahnet!

I own a bare YashicaMat, some other colleagues got the YashicaMat 124G that includes a lightmeter. To me these cameras are great, solid and with a superb quality both in the make as in the pictures taken. I'm very happy with it. Look at the manuals (readily available in the net) before buying it, so you will know all the parts and details. Mine came complete with a leather carrying case, and lens cap. I had nothing to clean or adjust, it was shooting fine from the first moment.
Shooting with a YashicaMat is an enjoyable experience.
Maybe Larry or Peter can add something more technical to this. Wink

Jes.

Me? Technical? Shocked

I agree with everything you said Jes, but I can't add a lot. The EM has the improved Yashinon lenses like my 124 and it only takes 120 film, but this isn't a problem. The meter is the older selenium type and apparently it's not coupled to the aperture and speed controls, but I don't know exactly how it operates. Sometimes (often!) these old meters don't work properly now and I think it would be wise to check it against a separate accurate meter. I don't think it can be adjusted, but I heard it's possible to replace the cell.

You could go for a MF SLR and use its lenses with an adapter on your dSLR. Mamiya 645 and P6 work that way and have readily available adapters to EOS. I'm not too sure about adapters for other MF SLRs but some do exist here and there. All MF SLRs have plenty of register room, so that's not an issue, it's just whether there's been enough demand to make it worthwhile for anyone to make an adapter for a specific system to another.

I have no technical expertise, but fully agree with peter. You really can't go wrong at all with a Yashica with Yashinon lens. I wouldn't even think too much about the meter. If it work, fine. But if not, then it's a great excuse to use Sunny 16, or buy a very cheap old handheld meter.

Congrats Henrik!
This is a nice cam. Some of the earlier yashica TLR cameras have a different aperture than the later models. The late ones are 5 bladed, the earlier such as yours have 10 (maybe more) and make a round aperture. So theoretically the OOF highlights shuld be more pleasing. As Larry points out, don't fret over the meter. Even in the 124G of the early 1980's vintage the meter is suspect at best. Well I should not say that. I should say that you can not trust it for slides or difficult lighting. For B+W and high exposure latitude color neg. film it is just OK. Use a handheld meter for slides. Have fun! Smile These cams are built to go you should find few problems you can not fix simply. Cool

Andy

Congrats, lahnet! A nice looking cam with a history. Sometimes it's nicer to buy one from a family like that, where the camera has been used and cared for by an enthusiast; just getting one from a a shop is so anonymous.
