Wow, very few zooms I've seen perform like this, this one is really excellent. #7 is my fave, and being shot in the shade is more impressive. The last one shows really nice pop.
If you had told me this was so good, I'd not have believed you, but now I've seen it with my on eyes...
I might have to grab one of these sometime, even though I hate zooms, cos this one looks very useful indeed, thanks for sharing! _________________ I don't care who designed it, who made it or what country it comes from - I just enjoy using it! |

A very good catch Attila.
It is very hard to find this lens, since its production period was short. _________________ Our Home Page has 18,200 photos in 575 directories today.

I have just checked it on British eBay, none of them is ML 35-70/3.5 (constant aperture) one. _________________ Our Home Page has 18,200 photos in 575 directories today.

I was curious as well about yashica ML zoom 35-70mm f3.5 (MFD 1m, no macro). This zoom is rare and at the end I got it and compared it with Contax 35-70mm f3.4 (MFD 0.7m+macro function).
I have to say that contax wins in every respect , however yashica ML zoom has it's own character.
The both lenses:

I have a auto pallas mc in m42 mount that looks very similar...
I never used it but if anyone is interested I can take some test shots on my 5D Classic

I have compared (no scientific) the both lenses with Minolta MD 35-70 f/3.5 first version (without macro) as well.
To my eyes contax still shows better performance.

Just into the past 1.5 years, the price of the Yashica MC (not ML) Zoom 35-70 did rise from usually <20 EUR to around 60, even 90 bucks atm....really insane! It's a good lens, but the Minolta MD-III 35-70/3.5 is truly better - and cheaper...with or without macro feature.
Otherwise, the original ML 35-70/3.5 is really a rare lens today, and expensive. I'd go for the Minolta MD 35-70/3.5 instead, because it's quite much avialable for good prices...but the ML does have of course better build quality (all metal, not partially plastics) |
