I am waiting for the Yashica I won recently to arrive. In the meantime, I am wondering if anyone has made direct comparison or experience between the Yashica and Zuiko. I know this forum seems to like the Yashica and the Zuiko's at FredMiranda. I have read that the Zuiko to be as good as the Zeiss, if not better. And I heard the Yashica can produce IQ near to Zeiss quality.
Any comment & samples would be a good read. I know the Zuiko can be had quite cheaply (price is going up, though) to make my own comparison, but as always, I value comments/experience from others. Or should I just do a ranking based on what I know so far despite no direct comparison.
1a. Zeiss
1b. Zuiko
3. Yashica

To my experience, your ranking seems to be pretty accurate, although some here surely will rank the Yashica higher than the Zuiko.
I don't have a Zeiss lens, but I had the Zuiko 3.5/28 and the ML 2.8/28, I sold the ML and kept the Zuiko. OK, they were very close.
Still, the ML 2.8/28 is a really good lens and a price breaker. It is hard to fine such a good lens for so little money!! _________________ Personal forum activity on pause every now and again (due to job obligations)!

| Carsten, did you sell it because you like the Kiron 2/28 better? I have two other 28's, the S-M-C Tak 3.5/28 and Kiron made Viv 2.5/28 which I noticed you also have. Any comparative thoughts on those lens. |
I posted this in the other Yashica ML 28mm thread, thought I would quote it here if you would like to reply.
But I still like this to be a Yashica/Zuiko discussion. |

take them both. The yashi has warmer colors and better contrast. The Zuiko cooler but maybe better rendering. Both are nice brushes for your pallet and cheap. _________________ Moderator |

I'm with Attila on this one. Distagon is #1. I tell you my opinion is that ML28 is as Distagon-like as any 28 you can find at any price. Nice snag on the cheap om3.5/28. I think it will be impossible to get this one shipped out however. You should ask the seller if he is seriously going to follow thru. If he seems wobbly, let him off the hook. He does not take paypal so you have no recourse. This lens goes cheaply often. Best of luck I hope it works out for you |

I have both lens, my test showed zuiko 28/3.5 has sharper corners than zeiss distagon 28/2.8 at F3.5(F4), even at F5.6.
zuiko 28/3.5 definitely is a under-rated lens. |

I believe you dying
my sample is really a lemon. It is mint like new but a very bad performer.
My tamron 17-50 have also better corners than the distagon 28/2.8 and probably better than the zuiko.
But sharpness isn't everything.
The zuiko and the tamron doesn't have the Zeiss colors _________________ T* |

Yes, I agree with you, sharpness is not very important at all, zeiss has vivid colors and better 3Dness.
My opinion is just to point out Zuiko 28/3.5 is also an excellent lens if considering its price and performance |
