Winter Dock

I had time to scan another negative this morning, so I might as well put it up for inspection.

This was a roadside shot of the swimming dock at the west end of Lake Crescent. The blue of the water is TRUE to what you see. This can be attested to by other forum members who have visited Lake Crescent. Especially in the shade with sun behind the camera, the coloration of Lake Crescent shows its aquamarine hues.

I was walking along the shoulder of the road, and sort of "backed up" a little, as the Red Alder (Alnus rubra) tree showed some nice whites and grays on its bark. This seemed to look nice against the water.

I positioned myself back and forth, and finally came to the conclusion that it wasn't a big deal to "bend the rules" a little, with the main tree and dock combined, almost in the center of the image. Because of the dock placement, I felt that this gave a sort of "looking around the tree" effect that isolated the dock in the background. I also liked the reddish tones of the Winter alders in the background.

So, though I broke some rules, I felt it looked good to me.

Winter Dock

Pentax 645
Lens unrecorded - possibly the Vega 90/2.8
Exposure unrecorded (probably f:16)

I like the comp in this! Nicely done as usual, Larry! Didja swim out to the
dock to take a picture of the tree? Kidding.

Is this scan from your new V700?

Lovely as always. I drove by Cresent lake last weekend. And yes this is the blue you will see when you visit. I wonder Larry, what rules do you think you broke? Maybe I am a bit dense but, could you elaborate?

I saw this this morning on my laptop monitor which I think over enhances blue, so I held back til I saw it on another monitor. Magical is the word that comes to mind. The ice coldness of the water comes through really well.

WOW!
Now I must confess Larry, this is my first time viewing the gallery and the only word I have for this shot and many more of yours is WOW!

Seeing these combined with your past compliments and commentary, makes me feel humble and all the more flattered.

I can only try to live up to the standards set here.
