Rainbow coloured fantail flares sometimes can be desirable.

Maybe a list of such lenses would be informative?

Yes I saw that, perhaps there is a technique to get the fantail in sharp focus?

Also I remember a post in the cine lens section showing fantail coming through a forest but I cant find it now Sad

Polishing may be able give a lens rainbow flare like http://www.4photos.de/camera-diy/Lens-Coating-Removal.html .

Yes Marcus work is good but reduces the colour in the fantail

My Luxon 2/50 has fantail but not as good as your Heligon

My old edixa curtagon 4/28 does something like that when pointed straight towards strong sunlight, I think I have some samples somewhere.

I suppose the color is much depending on the in-camera and in-computer optimisation.

Following the hints by Marcus, I found this page https://photographylife.com/what-is-ghosting-and-flare . It seems in addition to the processing on/off camera, different sensor might produce different flare with the same lens. Even a pinhole can produce similar flare http://www.camerahacker.com/EOS_Pin-Hole_Lens/index.shtml .

Yes the pin hole fantail proves this Smile
