Might not be the best 50 on the block, but it's affordable. Hoping it's a great copy I'm betting it will out resolve my skills |
That's probably my favourite vintage 1.4/50mm lens. It's not one particular thing that makes the MC-X 1.4/50mm stand out, but the well balanced sum of its properties:
* optically among the best of its time
* better coatings than most of its time
* sturdily built
* extremely smooth focusing, comparable to Leica R lenses (and Super-Takumars)
* low price
* easy to use bayonet mount (unlike M42 or Canon FD or Topcor RE mount)

I got it and looks like a very good copy. There is some stuff on the front element that might clean off, but not affecting the images as far as I can tell. I only had about 20 minutes with it today, but it seems very nice. As you stated, but also it is a very easy to use lens. It really seems to take off starting at f2.
Thank you and papasito for your input.

Not bad for a hack using an old XT-1. This is going to be one of my favorite normal lenses I think. _________________ ~Jon |

No, the lens has no transfer functions - neither for camera control nor for EXIF data transfer _________________ Greets

Probably a bit later than what I'm used to, by the focal length range.
I have to watch the locking tabs on my adapt-all 2 mount. They like to work themselves to the unlocked position.
I had the 500 f8 mirror fall off the mount. I was able to catch it, so no damage...

A Petri 200mm F/4 bought off Yahoo Japan. Preset version, I believe it to be a Sun/Sankor lens as it bears distinctive styling cues from Sun lenses of that era. I already have other Silver styled lenses from Petri, including the 55/1.8, 35/2.8, 35/3.5 and 135/3.5. Also interesting in that it is M42, so it maybe quite early on, as the 1959 first version of the Petri Penta M42 camera was followed in 1960 by the breach mount Penta V. Some early Petri marked lenses for the breach mount were sold with M42-Petri adapters. This lens looks to be T-mount or some kind of interchangeable mount. |

What an extraordinary coincidence. I found this camera yesterday.
The lens is a Meyer Oreston and very good, but needs a thorough clean.
The camera is a bit sad - shutter speeds all over the place.
I do like the lens though.

mine is good but 1/15 and longer don't work, remains open, and focusing is bit stiff

Absolutely no clue 😊. It's an early one, so serial nr doesnt refer to any manufacturer. |

Just found this info. According to camera wiki made by Tokyo Koki (now Tokina): http://camera-wiki.org/wiki/Vivitar_200mm_f/3.5_Compatible_T_System
I see indeed some striking similarities with early Tokina made preset lenses: http://forum.mflenses.com/vemar-old-tokina-135-2-8-t38951,highlight,%2Btokina.html |

Some Auto Vivitars in T mount were made by Tokina, as the 35/2,8, 85/1,8, 135/2,8.
Now we can add your 200 mm lens too. |

Thanks! I'm hoping to see the earliest calculation of 1.8/55 lens formula, same as rare and expensive first Takumar version produced near the same time 1958. That will make the 5th calculation iirc -- stay tuned...

Somehow I think this will end with somebody pointing to a Minolta, but I am limited to K-mount or M42. I was pleasantly surprised by the Takumar 24mm F3.5 despite it being hazy, there is also an SMC K version of that lens. The 2.8 K is a more modern design I guess, it was carried over to the Pentax-A line-up. _________________ pentaxian |
