A friend is buying his first M42 adapter, which one should he get? Anyone got links for a good ebay shop or something? _________________ My Flickr - Takumar.org

I've bought adapters from:
http://myworld.ebay.com/virtualvillage-es/
http://stores.ebay.com/ROXSEN (Andy had a bad experience with roxsen, though)
http://stores.ebay.com/big-is-camera
I don't remember from which one I got the m42->eos adapter i have, though. _________________ Gear: Canon EOS 400D, Yashica FX-70, Contax 139Q, Canon EF-M,

Real problem with M42 adapters some of them support not support infinity because it is thicker than need. Another problem lens not reach infinity exactly at the end. My Roxsen adapter for Olympus not good lenses are not reach infinity exactly at the end. _________________

Aside from focus confirmation equipped adapters, there are also two basic types:
1. Adapters without a rear ring to depress the lens' stop-down pin.
2. Adapters with a rear ring.
The first type won't work with auto-only lenses as it won't depress the pin but will work fine with both preset and lenses with an auto/manual switch.
The second type will work with auto-only lenses but may not work with some lenses that have a protruding rear part as the rear of the lens won't pass through the rear of the adapter resulting in infinity focus issues. _________________ "The badger winks twice before the cheese explodes!"

Try ebay seller photobits42, he usually has them in and is great to deal with.

It greatly depends on where you are.
I've got my M42-EOS AF-confirm adapter from "big-is-camera".
Moderately priced, 2 weeks for delivery (from Hong Kong).
Ordered two AF-confirm chips from them recently. |
