What can be adapted to Sony A mount?

I've just bought a Sony a850 and I'm wondering what mounts can be adapted to fit?

I know that DKL and M42 can, I have those adapters, and T mounts and Tamron Adaptalls can be adapted, but what others, if any, are available?

I know Leica R is, but the chances of me buying any Leica glass are rather small. Wink

No other 35mm camera can be adapted to A mount except these two mounts you have mentioned. That is why people buying the A7 series.

Welcome to the Sony FF wagon, and congratulations for the new camera. As far as I know the A850 is a very good camera.

Compatibility table:

Well I have 30 lenses in DKL, M42 and A mount covering 20 to 540mm so I have more than enough to use, I was just wondering if any of my others could be adapted.

Sometime I'll get another NEX to be able to use my rf lenses and some of my Hexanons.

My a850 cost a third of what an A7 costs, so it makes sense, and for me, it's a vastly superior camera in several key regards.

Off topic to talk about AF lenses, but there are some great Minolta AF film era lenses that can be picked up for not too much, on the basis that there are not so many A mount users as there are Nikon or Canon. The A850 looks a great buy if you want a "proper" SLR type camera. Sensor may not be as great in low light as the current generation, but as you say, it is a lot cheaper!

Congrats for your new camera, Looking forward for some pics.

Cheers, pics will be coming soon.

You're right about the old Minolta AF lenses - they are very good and very cheap. I have:

2.8/28
1.7/50
3.5-4.5/35-70
3.5-4.5/28-85
3.5-4.5/35-105
4/70-210

Those are all from the original 'beercan' generation. I also have a Sigma 75-300 and a Sigma 24-50, both are okay, nothing special on film, probably will be a bit lacking on the a850. I also have a Tokina AF 3.5-4.5/20-35 which is wonderful and will probably become my most often used lens.

Here's some film shots with my Minoltas, to give you a taster, they are 15mp scans from my Plustek 7600i:

2.8/28:

1.7/50:

Yes, I have some, and they're all at least good. I know you already have a 35-70, but I warmly suggest the 4/35-70 "macro", it can be had really cheap and it's great, imho.

Ian will you be at lake windermere shooting the two lancasters?

PostPosted: Wed Aug 20, 2014 9:06 pm    Post subject: Reply with quote

Thanks guys.

I think it is the 4/35-70 Macro I have, I made a typo in calling it the 3.5-4.5.

No problem on calling me Luis, I've been called far worse things! Smile

It's only 25 miles away, but I've not heard about the Lancasters, tell me more!

There's a couple of Sunderlands in the bottom of Windermere according to local legend.

I think the Windermere air show is still cancelled, if it isn't they need to get some publicity going.

You seem to be well equiped with AF lenses. I have the beercan and 35-105. The beercan is good, but the 35-105 is really great. It's the only AF I use and the only zoom. I presume you have the older version?

If you bought a Sony a850 and it was 1/3 the price of a Sony A7, then it must have been very cheap.

In Japan, you can get an A7 for about $1200 USD(equiv), so to get the same sort of deal here in Japan, you'd be paying paying around $400

The Lancaster flypast is nothing to do with the air show, it's a one off event. Sadly the air show seems to have fallen victim to local politics.
I'd love to see the two Lancaster's, but they aren't doing any flypasts near me.

Yes, the 35-105 is really great, I have the original version as released in 1985 with the Minolta 7000.

The 28-85 is as good, in fact, I think it is slightly better, if you see one, grab it, they go for peanuts.

I'm no fan of zooms but these ones are as good as most primes and are very pleasant to use, so I like them.

I want to add the 28-135 'secret handshake' and either the 75-300 'big beercan' or 100-300 APO to my collection too.

I'd like to add the 20, 24 and 135mm primes as well, but hey are not easy to find and not so cheap.

I paid 420ukp plus 12.25 shipping, it's in immaculate condition and has 21,000 actuations. The shutter is rated for 150,000 actuations so it should last me years.

Wow, so the A7 must be almost 2 x as expensive in the UK as it is in Japan!!!! I picked up a perfect ex demo A7 in Tokyo for the equivalent of 605ukp

The A7 is around £1100 in the UK. And about $1500 US. ( $1500 = £905 ) We get ripped off in the UK.
